Lisle, Illinois is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. Lisle is one of the nine townships in DuPage County. It is part of the Chicago-Naperville-奥巴马 Metropolitan Area. The ZIP code for Lisle is 60522. Lisle was founded in 1836 as a result of land grants from James K. Polk to John Dickey and others. In 1847 it became a city when its incorporation passed through an act of the general assembly. On October 14, 1892, Lisle became one of twenty-one community counties in Cook County when they were formed as a result of the Americanization Act of 1890. The first post office opened in Lisle on July 7, 1836; it was renamed "Dickey" in honor of Captain Jerald Dickey who had donated the land for the town site and built a smallsmith shop on it. A store and hotel were built on Main Street (now State Route 129) by 1840; these were enlarged and replaced by a larger structure known as "The Greek". The first school building was erected on School Street (now State Route 129A) about 1850; this soon proved inadequate for instruction so an addition was made to house another school which operated until 1870. By 1860 there were ten families resident in Lisle; by 1880 there were over fifty families living here with seventy-six businesses employing one thousand people or more during that decade alone! Post offices continued to be located at various addresses throughout the town until 1907 when they all moved into new buildings constructed near present day First Congregational Church on South Second Street - now home to KFC Corporate Headquarters! During much of this time period substantial amounts of natural gas drilling took place off town due to Illinois' oil resources but no gas production occurred until 1911 when Williston Pipe Line Company drilled three wells totaling ninety feet depth yielding natural gas reserves that have yet to be exploited! With technology advancing during this time many homes began having airconditioning installed while others experienced telephone service! In 1916 Lisle went into receivership due to lack of business receipts from municipal servicesismanagers but reemerged as an agricultural center with state government investment providing seed marketing assistance and other programs early in World War I which contributed greatly to development since most agricultural production then took place outside county limits In 1940 over 1,000 people lived within two blocks radius around present day Third Baptist Church - what is today called Midtown Dearborn Park - making it one of largest social communities eastside Chicago had ever seen! The post office closed down here circa 1960s although some mail still goes through 3rd Baptist Church today ! Today nearly every family has their own driveway with drive thru windows !!
