Lisle is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Lisle is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. It is located on the north side of the city of Chicago. The first European sighting of Lisle took place on November 14, 1812 when Captain John Stephenson and his crew were sailing from Green Bay to Kankakee when they saw a small island in Lake Michigan about northwest of Lisle. They named it "Island Inlet" after their captain's ship and reported their discovery to their superiors in Green Bay. Lisle was founded by Colonel Benjamin Fenton on December 1, 1827 as a log cabin community that straddled the border between Kane County and Will County. The first post office was established in 1828 and changed its name to Lisle on January 1, 1830. In 1837, General David Dixon decided to move westward across country and establish what would become Chicago; he appointed George Stephenson as his deputy mayor for public works during this time period. When Dixon's successor as president of Illinois Joshua Silliman died in 1840, Stephenson became acting governor until somebody could be elected who could take office on April 12th (the date Mather Lyman had announced Chicago's incorporation). On February 11th 1850 there was an outbreak of cholera at River Bend which quickly spread throughout Union Township due to lack of sanitation facilities; over 60% of Lisle residents wereaffected within 24 hours with more than 1400 cases reported total including over 350 deaths from diarrhea caused by contaminated water supplies emanating from nearby farms - all affecting Indian men working for white farmers living off tribal lands not subject to US law or regulation! This event helped spur Congress into passing the Morrill Act making landowning individuals responsible for providing safe drinking water for all citizens regardless of race or ethnicity! This event also led directly to the foundingof modern day Stuyvesant Village! With general prohibition now legal throughout most America starting with New York City & Washington D.C., much attention was paidto this new development coming into view just east of downtownChicago! After various fires snuffed out early attempts at developingthis area adjacent Elmhurst Avenue & Jackson Park Boulevardblooming up overnight near Wacker Drivehe finally authorized building a large streetcar depotjust east off First Street opposite Soldier Field - becoming oneof only 2 American cities (& one Canadian)TO feature streetcars leading directly up Hennepin AvenuetoCONTROL CENTER CITY! Lisle is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Lisle is located on the Wabash River. Lisle was first settled by German immigrants in 1836. It was named for George Lisle, an early settler and official of the Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad. Lisle grew rapidly after railroads arrived in the late 19th century and became one of the largest towns in McLean County. A streetcar line ran through Lisle from 1907 to 1951; today buses serve the community. Lisle's history reflects its location on the banks of the Wabash River – a strategic river crossing for early settlers who needed transportation to access resources such as wheat and coal near Chicago. The town has also been home to many famous people, including president Harry S Truman and musician Harold Arlen.

The first settler in Lisle was John Prentice, who arrived in 1824. He named the community after his home town of Lincolnshire, England. A post office called Lisle was established in 1829 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. Lisle's first school served children from 1830 to 1865. In 1864, the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad built a line from Chicago to Vandalia and needed a depot close to town so citizens could pick up mail. The company offered land for a depot and residents voted to build one on their own lot. The new depot became known as "Plymouth" after the town near which it sat. In 1881, an incorporationwas granted for the city of Plymouth by an act of the Illinois General Assembly; this would become its charter status until 1969 when it changed back to Lisle once again under its current name with municipal government following shortly thereafter In 1907 there were only 10 families living in Lisle while over 100 people lived within three miles (5 km) of downtown; by 1912 this had increased to just 30 families while over 200 people lived within five miles (8 km) of downtown . By 1925 nearly all of what is now Kane County had been annexed into Chicago ; however small towns continued to be incorporated into larger cities through annexation including Lisle which ceased operations on July 1st 1923 when it merged with its neighboring village Alden Grove into Cook County . On October 20th 1870 Henry Deacon purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) along State Road 9 south of present day State Road 56 east of Ft Wayne for $2,000 from James Ransom . This included both what is now Lisle Township and parts or all present day Kankakee Township as well as most or all present day Joliet Township . Deacon named his parcel "Deacon's Prairie". It became part of Cook County on January 11th 1871 . On April Fool's Day 1897 he sold another 476 acres (240 hectares) adjoining Deacon's Prairie for $4,500 becoming one of the largest tracts ever sold by any individual at that time ..... In 1924 Harry Sperling donated 160 acres (60 hectares) adjacent north side of First National Bank building lot #1 also known as Sperling Meadow
