Lisle is a small town in the northwestern corner of Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lisle is located on the west bank of the Fox River, about north-northwest of Peoria and east of Normal. The name "Lisle" was first applied to a location on the east side of the river by Nicholas Litchfield in 1795. The present spelling was devised in 1847 when a post office called Lisle was established at a bend in the Fox River upstream from where it now lies. At that time, there were only two settlements in what is now Lisle County: One on each side of the river. Today, all but one (Granite City) are defunct and only a tiny remnant remains within present day Lisle Township boundaries. One early resident and namesake for what is now Lisle Township was John Davenport who settled near Granite City about 1811-1812 and named his township after himself - probably because he had no other family connections hereabouts. Other settlers continued to arrive until late 19th century when most everyone had left for various reasons or moved away during times of war or disease like cholera or yellow fever (or simply due to different farmsteading patterns across much of Illinois). A few notable exceptions include George Ritchie who platted what today's downtown area bears his name in 1869; Amos Morse who founded an mutually beneficial cooperative society here around 1840; Cyrus McCormick who arrived in 1847 as one of several thousand immigrants seeking new opportunities following America's Civil War; and Augustus Fritsch who bought land hereabouts from Ritchie some years later – giving this location its earliest commercial definition as opposed to just one rural outpost among many along either bank of the Fox River. The Village Green Museum opened its doors on November 12, 1907 as one componentof Plano Heights development adjacent to then-Rural Telephone Company line which linked Park Ridge with Chicago via Illinois Central Railroad yards just south of Union Station – making it possible for citizens living outsideoftheCityofChicagoto glimpse their city cousins through glass walls at their workaday lives while conveniently having easy access totransportationandhospitality topropertieswithin easy walking distance also within close proximity (just 4 blocks away fromcommuting ride intoChicago). A further annexation event occured on February 14, 1908 when Lincolnwood Township merged with neighboring Addison Township creating what would become known as Peoria-Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area which included much larger(9 townships)thantheTownshipOfLisleycurrently comprising portions OFillinois CountyincludingLisley itself!

Lisle is a city in Macon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Lisle is the county seat of Macon County. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and has a population of over 100,000 people. Lisle was founded in 1847 as a post office by loggers led by John Lisle and David Lloyd. In 1873 when the railroads reached Lisle, it grew rapidly with new residents coming to work on the railroad. The first store was built in 1874 and growth continued until 1915 when World War I interrupted development. Most important during its early years were lumbering and farming – until after World War II when heavy manufacturing took over. Manufacturing began with leather tanning followed by appliances such as radios and televisions before expanding into other businesses such as shipbuilding and plastics before locals turned their attention back to agriculture in the 1970s. The current downtown area was developed around 1960 when an interstate bypass cut through town northeast of Macon County Courthouse making Lisle more accessible to commuters travelling north from Chicago while also allowing for more housing developments east of Interstate 55 which has since spawned several high-tech companies including Motorola Solutions and Inteligent Systems LLC., among others. Downtown features several hotels including nearby Renaissance Chicago Hotel which opened in 2006 after being vacant for many years, Sears Tower (formerly Radisson Blu) completed in 2013, Illinois State Capitol building completed in 2017,[1][2][3]and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company Building completed in 2019.[4] A few blocks away lies Applebee's restaurant that opened atrium style restaurant inside Millennium Park on October 20th 2020[5][6] serving up original American cuisine since 1919
Lisle was founded by Adam Christopher Lisle in 1819. The town became a city in 1907 and is now the seat of Cook County, Illinois.
