Lindenhurst is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is located in the southeast corner of the county and borders Rockford to the east and west. The town was founded by Denmark Easton in 1854 as a trading post on the then-new Chicago River. By 1857 it had outgrown its original site and moved to what is now eastern Lindenhurst Township. It became an incorporated village in 1907. In 1912, Lindenhurst merged with neighboring West Dundee to form a new borough. In 1924, Lindenhurst withdrew from incorporation as part of a municipal consolidation plan that would leave Cook County with 10 townships (7 rural, 3 urban). The merged municipalities continued to operate as independent municipalities until 1959 when they were annexed intoCook County again through annexation proceedings that began in 1954. The current name for Lindenhurst comes from Nicholas de Bry (1602-1675), an early settler who purchased land near present day Lindenhurt Road and Deerfield Road south of Chicago; he donated land for use as a military reserve during the French and Indian War. De Bry named his community after himself because he could not find anyone else with whom he could share such an auspicious name or deed . Lindenhurst first emerged on maps circa 1800s when John Norden mapped area including present day Mendota Heights/Lindenhurt Rd., Deerfield Rd., Old Fort Hill Rd., White Sands Dr./Hudson St., Prospect Ave., Grandview Ave./Sugarloaf Way NE & Dempster Ave.–these areas are now part of Rockford Heights

Lindenhurst, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst was founded in 1847 by German immigrants and is the oldest community in Cook County. The original name of Lindenhurst was "Wench Lake". The first post office in Lindenhurst was established on July 1, 1847. It was renamed to its current name on October 14, 1887. In 1902, the village became an incorporated municipality with a population of 575 people. On December 12, 1955, the village lost its charter as a result of a referendum vote and it reverted to an unincorporated municipality with a population of 350 people. The Village lost its charter again on May 15th of 2006 due to low voter turnout however it regained its charter on September 7th 2007 after being passed through by the city council unanimously. Lindenhurst has 4 schools which serve grades Pre-K-6: Grindstone Elementary School; North Park Middle School; South Park High School; and West Side Junior/Senior High School also has Gymnasiums for Boys and Girls that open during weekday hours only when there is no school use that day or if there is class inside the gymnasium that day but no physical activity taking place inside because either school has already let out for the day or too many kids are using another building for physical activity because they can't find their way back home from playing outside even though they live close by (e.g., White Sands Elementary). There are also 3 parks which serve as playgrounds/sports fields: North Park Tennis Club; South Park Soccer Stadium; and West Side Baseball Field (opened in 1948). There are currently two businesses located within steps away from each other that handle most local needs such as grocery store staples like meat and produce along with various sundries items needed for everyday living including plumbing supplies along with some hardware stores which sell appliances such as TVs along with electrical equipment used for home improvement projects likeencersons air conditioners etc.: *Sears Holdings Inc.* - A department store chain based in Hoffman Estates IL opened up shop next door to Lindenhurst's first grocery store back in 1927! It closed down around 1984 but reopened under new ownership in 2001 eventually becoming Sears Canada before ceasing operations completely in 2013 * Lowes Hardware - A hardware store chain based out of Racine WI opened up shop across from Nordstrom Rack about 2 years ago now *Office Depot - An Office Depot chain based out of Schaumburg IL opened up shop just past Main Street near high school last year adjacent to one of Lindenhussts golf courses
In 1827, General James H. Lindenhurst was born in Illinois. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and later became a U.S. Senator from Illinois. Lindenhurst also founded the Chicago Tribune and helped to negotiate United States Entry into World War I.
