Lindenhurst is a small town in the county of Kane, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is located on the Union Pacific Railroad and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Lindenhurst has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfb" on climate maps. The community owes its name to John H. Lindenheimer who settled there in 1873. He was born in Germany and came to America in 1847 as a refugee with his parents and two sisters. At first he worked as a laborer on his father's farm but when that failed he started a small grocery store near where he lived until 1870 when he opened his own store. In 1875 John H. married Anna (née Kapp) which gave him three daughters: Alma (1876-1948), Lillie (1878-1960) and Helen (1880-1964). In addition to running his store John H. also operated several schools including: one for girls (1902), one for boys (1904), one for colored children (1910), and one for German immigrants (1920). In 1916 Drury Pritchard bought much of what is now Lindenhurst from Mr. Lindenheimer and began developing it into an agricultural center with land holdings that included over . Pritchard renamed the community after himself - "Pritzkerland". Today most people know Lindenhurst just as it was before Drury Pritzker made it so: A small farming town located within commuting distance of downtown Chicago along the Union Pacific Railroad; home to a large number of farmers; well known for its highly fertile soil; several stores including one by Drury Pritzker himself; an annual fair dating back to 1911

Lindenhurst is a town in Livingston County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,493 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Lindenhurst was Michael Croteau in 1814. By 1840, there were six families living in the town and it had a population of 350. In 1852, the first post office was established and by 1860, the town had a population of 1,000. It annexed neighboring village of Burr Ridge in 1865 and by 1870 its population had increased to 3,000 people. In 1872 an express train derailed near Lindenhurst killing five passengers and injuring twenty-one others; this event led to increased safety measures for trains on the Great Lakes region. One such measure was the creation of a boardwalk along Lake Michigan that ran from Lindenhurst all the way to Rockford; this helped promote tourism in Lindenhurst and attracted more businesses to town. Lindenhurst became a city on October 15th, 1893 when it merged with nearby Rockford; at that time its population numbered 810 residents. On April 14th 1907 an earthquake struck western Livingston County causing extensive damage including loss of homes and businesses as well as injuries to several hundred people who were trapped under debris for hours before being relieved without fatalities or serious injury.
