The Lindenhurst Rifle Club was chartered in 1881. The club's first meeting took place on November 3rd. It is generally accepted that the rifle club was formed to promote hunting and shooting, although there is no record of any meetings being held about handguns or shotguns at this time. In 1892, the club moved from its original location on the east side of town to a more spacious building located on West Main Street. The new building had an outdoor range, a library, and a clubhouse. In 1898, the Lindenhurst Rifle Club made history when it became one of the first clubs in America to offer memberships entitling them to membership in both the NRA and IPSC societies. This decision marked an important milestone for the club as it began taking seriously its role as a professional organization for shooters. Between 1906 and 1916, many changes took place at the Lindenhurst Rifle Club with president Harry Siever serving two terms (1906-1910) and vice president Harry Stroud serving one term (1916-1920). President Siever’s tenure saw significant growth within the club including addition of ladies members andthe establishment of firing ranges across town including one located on West Main Street which served as home field for local high school teams during baseball season.
Lindenhurst is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Lindenhurst is located on the north side of Chicago and borders McHenry County to the east and south. The first settler in Lindenhurst was Josephine Hiltz who arrived in 1847. In 1859, John Waugh settled in what is now Lindenhurst and started a small grocery business which he operated until his death in 1906. He was followed by his son, Jack Waugh, who ran the store for many years before selling it to his brother-in-law Harry Kappenheimer in 1957. The store remained open until 1984 when it closed its doors permanently due to fire and neglect by its previous owner. In 1909, a post office called "Lindenhurst" was established; it served until 1915. In 1926, Raymond Lichtman built an opera house on Park Boulevard which became known as "Theatre Lindenhurst". It housed both stage productions and feature films throughout its years of operation including over 100 performances per year from 1926 to 1978 inclusive (the last performance being on January 4th 1978). This theatre played an important role in developing cultural ties between different sections of Chicago during the late 20th century with productions such as "Chicago Paley Hall" playing here regularly throughout their run time In 1951 architect Elmer Brock designed two new buildings adjoining Theatre Lindenhurst - one housing members of the theater's board of directors while the other served as headquarters for theatrical marketing efforts during that era In 1957 Harry Kappenheimer sold his share of Theatre Lindenhurst back to Raymond Lichtman becoming sole proprietor once again A major renovation project began in 1991 which included adding new flooring, updating lighting systems and restoring all exterior woodwork including original brick veneers Finally after more than 20 years on hold finally reopened on October 12th 1998 with new programming including 2 nights nightly of Broadway plays

Lindenhurst is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,682 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst was incorporated as a village in 1879 and became a city in 1903. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was named for George Linden, who had been captain of the first wagon train to travel through what is now Illinois during the 1830s. George's grandson, John W. Linden, donated land near present-day Lindenhurst for a courthouse and town square. A schoolhouse and store were built on this site before being moved to their current location in 1881; the first post office opened in that year. In 1883, voters approved plans to make Lindenhurst an official city with its own police department and fire department; it did so on July 1 of that year. At the same time, annexation of neighboring villages (including Park Ridge) completed the complex process that would eventually make Chicago its definitive form as a metropolis—a process that began with Alderman William Bogan's call for proposals for housing development in1875 and continued through Mayor James Rennie's efforts to wrench more property from small towns throughout Cook County during his two terms from 1889–1901. As Chicago grew larger and more racially diverse, some residents of Lindenhurst voted against annexation into Chicago because they felt their neighborhood would become too gentrified and upscale while others chose not to move out of fear that their homes might be taken away if they left their communities for greener pastures (although many residents have since returned). The remaining people of both cities gradually merged until today there are few distinguishing neighborhoods within either municipality save those located within City Limits which include most or all of downtown (north side), Lincoln Park (south side), Hyde Park (west side), Grant Park (east side), Shorewood [now Appleton] & Elmhurst [now Elmhurst Hills], Winnetka [now Winnetka Heights], Northbrook [now Glenview], Highland Park [now Hinsdale], Orland Hills [now Orland Hills Highlands]. In 2002-2003 city councilmember Edward Burke proposed annexing south suburban Arlington Heights which also passed with only 6 percent opposition from citizens living there despite allegations by developers it would create an affluent suburb complete with high-end shopping malls without any public services or amenities such as schools or libraries AFP staff has determined no benefits could accrue from such development
In 1871, three men from Illinois founded Lindenhurst in a small town on the west side of Chicago. The town grew rapidly and by 1898 had a population of over 1,500. Lindenhurst was known for its excellent agricultural products, especially corn and beans. The town also produced horses and cattle, as well as cigars, whisky, and other items.
