Lindenhurst is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,839 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is located in the southwest part of the city of Chicago. Lindenhurst was platted on November 10, 1851 by John P. Goodspeed and under his name "Goodspeed's Landing". It became a village on December 17, 1857. On March 15, 1865, it became a town when its citizens ratified a petition to that effect from the Board of Trade. The original name for Lindenhurst may have been derived from an Indian word meaning "happy place." The first settler in Lindenhurst was Isaac Morse who arrived there in 1852 and built the first house on what is now First Street. He also raised chickens and hogs which he sold to local farmers for their eggs and meat. In 1854 another pioneer named Ebenezer Judd bought land east of First Street from Morse and began settlement around what is now Main Street and Old Colony Road. He erected some buildings including a log cabin which still stands today as Partisan Hill Historic Site (reached by Route 67). A store operated here until 1860 when Judd moved westward to Burlington Heights where he founded his own township with six other settlers on November 11, 1861. In 1870 Benjamin Goodspeed purchased Judd's holdings south of Burlington Heights and developed them into what is now known as Goodspeed Park (reached by I-294). One resident at this time estimated that "thousands of acres" were owned by Goodspeed and others in Lindenhusts early days! In 1902 two brothers named George Wirthman removed to Lindenhurst from Ottawa Township near Joliet; they had earlier homesteaded thereon in 1880 along with their brother Herman Wirthman Sr.. They added an additional farmstead - one called East View - that year on property then belonging to their father-in-law Moses Whitehead Jr.. With national forest land acquisition following World War II many new homes were built throughout Cook County during the postwar boom years; these included many bungalows designed by architects such as Edward Hirschfeld Associates LLP., notably near Loop 12th Street/I-94 exit 169A/UIC Campus Drive (now University Avenue) just north of Interstate 294 outside Streamwood Village shopping center while other developments took form such as North Side Power Plant Industrial Zone adjacent to I-294 interchange ramps 1 & 3 southwesterly off Southern Avenue making it possible for businesses associated with Illinois Municipal League District 27 business park development zone extending northeasterly across UIC campus drive forming corner lot 201 between State Parkway exit 169A & University Ave./Loop 12th St./UIC Campus Dr.; all within limits set forth hereinbelow! All lots surveyed excepting corner lot 201E situated immediately east side Roadside Gully bordered speedway / airport industrial area adjoining private airfields over Beltline Rd., site long suggested for expansion park but rejected due high cost $$ millions!

The town of Lindenhurst grew up around a small farming community called "The Gables." The original settlers were farmers who came from New England. They built their homes from logs found on the nearby riverbank. In 1836, the area around Lindenhurst became known as the "Glandorf Settlement." This name comes from the fact that there were many cattle farms near by. In 1840, some new settlers arrived in Lindenhurst and named it after General John Jacob Astor's home town of Albany, New York - Albany Heights. In 1868, the town of Lindenhurst was moved to its present location from its original location on the banks of the Sangamon River. At this time, it had a population of just under 10 people. At first, most residents worked on local farms or businesses. However, over time they started to develop their own businesses and become involved in local politics and government affairs.
