The club met on a farmstead near Lindenhurst, Illinois, and began collecting firearms for use in hunting and protection. In 1896, the club organized a shooting exhibition at the local fairgrounds. The show attracted many visitors from around the state of Illinois, as well as from neighboring states. In 1897, the Lindenhurst Rifle and Pistol Club upgraded its facilities to create a firing range. They also built a clubhouse for members to use.
Lindenhurst, Illinois is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 1,674 at the 2000 census. Lindenhurst is part of the Wheaton–Skokie Metropolitan Area. The first settler in Lindenhurst was John Ladd who arrived in 1827. From 1847 to 1865, it belonged to the Town of Skokie and then to Wheaton Township before it became part of McHenry County in 1871. In 1889, Lindenhurst was incorporated as a village and had a population of 499. It formally dissolved on January 1, 1999 when its residents merged into Wheaton-Skokie. From its inception until the early 20th century, Lindenhurst was an agricultural center with cornfields and dairy farms being among the most common businesses. However, by World War I there were only a few remaining farmers and manufacturing activities began to take hold in place such as clothing production and cellophane manufacture; this change led toLindenhams use becoming an important transportation hub for goods from Wheaton-Skokie area businesses to other parts of the country during that time period. During World War II many local industries produced munitions including aluminum making atsite near present day Crystal Lake Road and papermaking at nearby Paper Mill Pond which still operate today as two commercial operations run by former employees of both companies: First Paper Company (now known as Harris Corporation) on Main Street; later United Paperworkers Local 11 (now known as Sheet Metal Workers International Union Local 11) on Park Lane off Interstate 70). Lindenhurst is a community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Lindenhurst was established in 1871 when a group of farmers purchased 8 acres (3 ha) of land from the village of Bloomingdale. The name came from the Dutch word "Linden" meaning "a wooded hillock." The first post office at Lindenhurst was called Bloomingdale and opened on March 15, 1875. The original town plat included 4 blocks with 30 homes and 2 churches. In 1902, a new town hall and fire station were built and the name changed to Lindenhurst after General John J. Pershing's headquarters for World War I near Buffalo Grove, Illinois. In 1938, Lindenhurst had its first movie theater which became known as the Central Park Drive Showplace. In 1961-1962, two new high school buildings were built; one serving grades 1-8 and one serving grades 9-12. In 1970-1971, an allweather track was added to Lingenfruit Golf Course which currently seats 614 people for lessons or games during fair weather conditions (May through October). Lindenhurst has been host to many events over the years such as windsurfing championships in 1981 and 1984; basketball tournaments in 1985/1986; state high school golf championships in 1991/1992; UIL wrestling championships in 1998/1999; county football playoffs in 2006/2007; Taste of Chicago event held at Lingenfruit Golf Course in 2007 which attracted over 100 restaurants from throughout Chicagoland.; Midwestern State Fairgrounds marathon race on April 11th 2009 thru 12th 2009 conducted by USATF sanctioned event organization - this event consisted of 5 miles around central business district streets
