Just as McClernand was about to arrive on the scene with his cavalry reinforcements, Confederate Captain Samuel Latham called for a ceasefire because he had received word from higher up that Lincoln was considering ordering another crossing of the river in order to reinforce McClernand's position further south in Indiana Territory. As it turned out, this wasn't actually happening; Lincoln just wanted more men available closer to where they were needed fighting in person rather than sending them away on long marches across country. This event is often cited as one of the pivotal moments leading up to Civil War victory over Southern forces

On September 26th 1955 segregationist Judge Robert Hinkle supervised a hearing that resulted in 8 black residents being charged with disorderly conduct for singing "Auld Lang Syne" outside their 12-member neighborhood watch committee's meeting on Griggs Road; these arrests helped to spark organized civil disobedience against Jim Crow architecture throughout America during the early 1960s
