A post office called Arlington Heights was established at this location on October 15th (1856), but it failed because there were no subscribers (). So another post office called Harper Bend was instituted next door on November 1st (). Another branch opened at Pulaski Road west of Prospect Avenue soon after (), named after General Winfield Scott () due to its proximity to Scott's old home (); this branch closed down sometime before 1915 when telephone lines were brought through town().
