In 1902, Union Carbide Corporation founded its plant in Lincolnwood and helped to create a significant industrial base in the town. In 1937, Union Carbide merged with Dow Chemical Company to form DuPont Corporation. DuPont continued to operate its plant until it closed in 1996.
