Lincolnwood is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,822 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was first settled in 1853 by John Fenton and his family as a small farming community on the eastern edge of what is now Lincolnwood Village. A post office was established there in 1857, and the name changed to Lincolnwood in 1868 when it became part of the new village of Cicero. In 1916, Lincolnwood became one of five villages created within the newly formedCook County state government pursuant to Act 59 of 1916. The other four villages were Arlington Heights, Mayfield Heights, Northbrook and Wheaton Hills. The village charter was amended in 1978 to provide for a school board and an elected mayor/council with responsibility for all aspects of municipal governance including planning, zoning, budgeting and contract negotiations with various private entities - including health care providers and equipment manufacturers - that would be drawn into the village's economic development opportunities through reciprocal contracts. Lincolnwood has experienced significant growth since its incorporation into Cook County; according to 2002 census figures it had increased its population by more than 20%. Along with suburban areas such as Glenview Township and Schaumburg Township (both located east of downtown Chicago), Lincolnwood has become an important center for business activity in northwest Cook County – home to some of Chicago's most prominent companies such as Caterpillar Inc., DuPont Co., Motorola Solutions Inc., PepsiCo Heinz AG (Pepsi) and Wacker Oil & Gas Corp.. With continuing growth potential coming from businesses adjacent to or within its borders – including medical services provider Stryker Health Care plc., furniture manufacturer Regal Furniture Co., software company Oracle Corporation (oraclesoftwaregroupinc.) and Toll Brothers Inc.– Lincolnwood is well-positioned both economically and geographically to continue experiencing rapid growth over time

Lincolnwood is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,812 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County. The city was founded in 1837 by General John Adams Lincoln and his wife Sarah Todd Lincoln on the bluff overlooking the now-defunct town of Plymouth. The name for what is now Lincolnwood was "Plymouth" until it was changed to its current name in 1851 after a fire destroyed much of Plymouth. The city's first buildings were built on the north side of present-day Central Avenue, just east of I-88 exit 231A (now I-290). A post office opened at this location on December 12, 1837; it served as the nucleus around which City Hall would form over time. In 1840, when Roads and Bridges were created within Kane County, Plymouth became part of Indianola Township; however, because both townships contained land connecting them to other parts of Kane County, they continued to be called "Plymouth" even though their boundaries had changed. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln moved from his home near Dearborn Heights in Galena Park to come live with his second wife Mary Todd Lincoln at 6th and L Streets in downtown Lincolnwood; he had been elected President that year and needed a new home closer to Washington D.C.. This move increased township boundaries yet again so that by 1865 when Abraham died 9 years later he had lived out all but 4 years of his presidency within the newly formed Cooper Union neighborhood which still forms much of today's downtown area between 7th and S streets NW (the old site where 5th Street meets Madison avenue).
