Lincolnwood is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,485 at the 2010 census. Lincolnwood is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by Park Ridge to the north, Lawndale to the east, and Berwyn to the south. Lincolnwood was founded on October 1, 1853 by Reuben Hargrave and his son-in-law Augustus Kelley as a small settlement on a tract of land that had been donated by General George Washington Carver. The name was chosen for its distance from Chicago's fashionable Halsted Street and its association with Abraham Lincoln's political career. The town grew quickly and by 1870 it had a population of over 200 people. In 1876, when Aurora Township was organized into Cook County, Lincolnwood became one of its initial townships; it remained so until 1990 when it merged with Park Ridge to form the City ofChicago . The first settler in Lincolnwood was James Wessels who arrived in 1853 from Holland via Erie Canal. He set up shop on what is now Sixty-fourth Street between State and Franklin Streets; he operated a grocery store and also raised chickens and pigs out of his farmstead which he pastured on four acres (1 ha) near present day Roosevelt Road/Highway 606. Wessels' grandson John Locker erected an enlarged gristmill here in 1860 which processed cornmeal into flour for local markets such as Steenstraße (now Irving Park Rd.) & Fuller Ave., then downriver to Hyde Park Avenue where it sold to ships bound for New York City or Boston.. He also farmed tillage land adjacent to this mill site until 1865 when he installed electricity for his home before moving away.. His eldest son Jacob took over operations of this gristmill after father’s death in 1865.. At about this time some other early settlers arrive including David Fenton (1821 – 1915) who built a tavern called Black Hawk House at 5th & Dearborn Streets; Frank Jelks (1824 – 1901), William Hennepin (1829 – 1903), Lewis Boggs (1831 – 1908), Peter Mazurowski (1833 – 1912) all from Poland ; Theodore Broadus Wilson(Nathaniel Hawksbury Wilson)(1784–1864)—a native American—migrated sometime prior around 1800 probably aboard USS Constitution under Captains Nicholas Cogswell(1758–1800) and Edward Teach(1688–1795). Lincolnwood is a small village in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded in 1847 and has since grown to a population of over 1,500 people. The village was named after Abraham Lincoln, who had recently been elected President of the United States. Lincolnwood is located on the north side of Chicago and is bordered by the city to the east, the Grosse Pointe area to the south, and Winnetka to the west. The village has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6 km²). It is home to several schools, including Lawndale High School and Northwest Community College. The first settler in Lincolnwood was James Shields. Shields built his cabin on what is now Main Street in 1847. He also owned land near wherepresent-day Lincolnwood Village stands today. In 1848, John Davenport moved from Iowa to build a cabin here and started trading goods with local farmers. Davenport's business became very successful and he soon persuaded other traders and farmers to move into Lincolnwood as well. By 1850, there were over 20 people living in Lincolnwood. In 1854, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States; one of his main goals during his tenure was creating jobs for Americans across America. To help promote job growth throughout America, he issued an executive order known as The National Recovery Act (NRA). This act aimed to provide resources and support for businesses so that they could create jobs throughout America again – something that Lincoln himself had experienced firsthand during his time as governor of Illinois (1861-1865). During his term as President, The NRA made it easier for companies to get permits from the government so that they could build new factories or expand their existing businesses; this helped create many jobs throughout America due to its impact on economic development! In 1865, Abraham Lincoln died at age 56 after serving four terms as President of the United States – one year shorter than his predecessor George Washington! Shortly afterwards, Congress passed The Fourteenth Amendment which granted certain civil rights to African Americans – making them citizens equal with white citizens under law! This amendment was ratified by Illinois residents on July 6th, 1870 (!), thus becoming part of our state constitution! Today’s community owes much its success back then to Mr./Ms.? Abe? & Co.? !!!
