Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809 in Kentucky and died on April 6th, 1865 in Springfield. The community was platted on December 5th, 1853 by John Prentice Ford and Isaiah Nunn as part of the Bloomingdale Township subdivision of Cook County. Bloomingdale Township had been organized on May 15th of that year by Daniel Webster and Solomon Wolcott (two of the original twelve members of the legislature). Bloomingdale Township contained only a handful of homes from its first incorporation until it became a village on October 20th, 1916 when it annexed portions of neighboring Winnetka Heights Village. Lincolnwood's economy has relied heavily upon manufacturing since its establishment as a village; most notably agricultural products such as apples and corn have been produced here over the years. However, some businesses have also grown up around natural resources like hunting/fishing lodges or golf courses which provide employment for many people living near these attractions; however much recent growth has come from new development within the city limits including apartments and condos built near Northwestern University (the nearby campus provides jobs for students) as well as new parks/libraries being developed adjacent to downtown Chicago proper. Lincolnwood, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Virginia, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Alexandria, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Lincolnwood community takes its name from Abraham Lincoln. The town was platted on February 14, 1854 by John Hickey and James White. It was named for Abraham Lincoln because he had been an early settler in the area and his family had a cabin there. The first post office in Lincolnwood was established on April 15, 1857. In 1870, the Union Pacific Railroad reached the town and it became a station on their line. In 1916, the town built a new schoolhouse and first library which remain in use to this day. In 1957–58 local resident Shirley MacLaine starred as trophy wife Pat Nixon in "The Dick Van Dyke Show". As part of filming for that show's final season at Washington National Cathedral (the original set), she moved into her own home in Bethesda Court near Woodstock Road while her husband continued living at 7201 Gaylord Avenue with their two children; Anna Karenina (actor) and Matthew Weiner (writer). When "The Dick Van Dyke Show" ended its run after nine seasons on NBC in 1981, Pat Nixon sold her home to move into her own house near Great Falls Road NW near George Mason University while still living with Dick Van Dyke Jr.; they divorced three years later but maintained friendly relations until his death four years later from pancreatic cancer at age 71."
Lincolnwood was originally a part of the town of West Dundee, Illinois. It was incorporated as a village in 1892. In 1959, it became a city.
