Lincoln's experience with optics also led him to develop ideas about creating an American optical society within five years of becoming president- even before Congress had passed any legislation on the subject! His idea failed but it is interesting that despite having no practical experience with optics himself-he proposed such a move while still serving as President! Furthermore it must be noted that one reason why some Americans were so enthusiastic about Lincolns presidency is because many people viewed him sympathetically since he had been through similar experiences both politically and personally- something which few politicians have ever achieved It should also be mentioned that when it came to telescope development-Lincoln played an important role not only because he was knowledgeable but also because America lacked any real world experience at this point other than European technology which they were trying to copy It should also not be forgotten that even though Lincolns Presidency ended with impeachment hearings-he actually left behind some impressive accomplishments such as helping create modern day microscopes
