After leaving state government, Lincoln returned to politics and served as Mayor of Springfield from 1865 until his death in 1865. In total, Lincoln accomplished a great deal during his career as an educator and politician.

After the war, Lincoln again played a role in Politics and Administration by serving as Vice President (45-48) and Chief Justice of the United States (49-58). In retirement, he lived near Fordham University until his death on April 6, 1865.
