In 1892, Libertyville was founded on a small farm by four brothers. The family began to trade in items they produced for goods from other farmers and traders. By 1902, the town had a population of around 100 people. In 1916, the city of Chicago annexed Libertyville and the town lost its charter and ceased to exist as an independent community.
Libertyville is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Libertyville was platted on January 6, 1847 by George Gamaliel Fitzgerald and his wife Lucy Baker Fitzgerald. The original plat consisted of seventy-six rods (about ), with one house built each side of a common road. A post office was established in Libertyville on February 14, 1849. Fitzgerald served as the first Village President and held that position until his death in 1865. He was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Libertyville. The town motto was "In God We Trust" and the first store in town opened on December 26, 1853 by Payson & Whiteqvist Brothers under license from Fitzgerald Sr.. In 1860, James Hickey became the first postmaster for Libertyville after opening a post office near Waukeganrae on October 10th that year. Ivy League schools operated out of small buildings located around central square until 1912 when they moved to larger facilities on Parkway Avenue which are still used today including Lincoln High School and Griggs Middle School which were both founded during World War II as Air Force academies (). In 1960s there were plans to build an expressway through center but no action took place due to opposition from residents who felt it would negatively impact their quality of life; however some progress has been made recently with development in the area east of center city limits such as new housing developments along I-55 and I-74 . According to 2010 census results (published November 15), there are over 2,000 people living within walking distance or less than 5 minutes' drive of all village properties providing access to basic needs like groceries, parks/ playgrounds/cafes/ballgames etc., making it one of most livable villages according to this measure anywhere in Chicagoland

Libertyville is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,631 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Libertyville was James K. Polk from Waukesha County in 1836. The town was founded on May 4, 1856 by Lewis H. Dixon and John Prentice with 640 residents. A post office called Libertyville was established on December 20, 1856, and became a city on February 14, 1907. In 1865 or 1866 there were two lynchings of black men in Libertyville: one by George Hill and another by David Gentry; both men were acquitted by the grand jury that indicted them but their victims' families felt they had been wronged and vigorously pursued legal action against the townsfolk for libel and slander. The overall climate of racial intolerance in America during this time period led to violence which plagued Libertyville for years to come; however, no one ever definitively solved the mystery of who committed these murders or why they occurred specificlly within the town limits (this case remains open to currentigation). On November 15th 1916 William Jennings Bryan delivered his "Cross-Examination" address from the floor of the United States Senate before a joint session of Congress in which he criticized then Senator Charles Sumner's support for slavery as unconstitutional under national law - an event now remembered as history's first televised speech in Americanhistory! In later years many people have claimed that this speech inspired President Woodrow Wilson to sign into law the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st 1865 - thus ending Reconstruction in America! After Reconstruction ended much of southern Illinois became rural again but Libertyville experienced rapid growth as it become an agricultural center due to its location along Interstate 80 just outside Chicago's inner ring road system (I-80/94 is also known locally as "The Black Ring"). The Gold Rush began arriving here around 25 miles west of downtown Chicago beginning around 1860 when prospectors discovered rich gold deposits near Round Lake (now Clearlake) east and south of what is now Milwaukee Avenue (the eastern border today of Cook County). In 1865–1866 local boosters built a new courthouse and jail square funded largely via gambling operations conducted out side City Hall while other businesses such as flour mills developed nearby including claims processing plant operated by Jardine & Co., grocery stores operated by Smith & Bros., bakery operated by Weitzel Bros., post office served until 1955 by Knight Typeworks Inc., dry goods store operated until 1959 by Sears Roebuck & Company and finallyacia restaurant opened 1973 serving northern Italian cuisine until it too closed 2006 after being old abandoned since 1978 without any redevelopment plans having been put into place

This shift caused a dramatic decrease in the demand for goods produced within Libertyville's borders, which led to a decline in its economy. By 1850, Libertyville had only 1,500 residents remaining; it is now an almost forgotten town within Illinois's larger history.
