The estimated population for 2011 is over 21,600 people living in 687 villages within City limits The history of Libertyville begins with local pioneers who came here in search of land that would be free from Indian attack or seizure during the early days of this statehood movement. James Klyne Polk (1812-1885) was among these early settlers and he donated land to become what would become Libertyville. He had come westward as part of General Andrew Jackson's CorpsofCitizens under orders to survey and purchase land for agricultural settlement south of Chicago in what is now Cook County; he arrived at Lake Michigan on July 4th 1835 and camped near present day Burlington hills awaiting instructions from General Jackson about what should be done with this vast territory - much like our own America today! Polk's group surveyed 1 ¼ square miles (3 km²) at KLYNNE LAND . nicknamed "the old fort" because it served as both a trading post and military base for many years until 1857 when it burned down due to lack of care by then War Governor John Prentice! Klyne Land was donated by James Klyne Polk following his visit northward across Lake Michigan on July 4th, 1835 - just 2 weeks after General Andrew Jackson's Corpsof Citizens completed their survey mapping lands southward across Chicago into Cook County! This donation forms the nucleus around which all subsequent development took place throughout our growing township/city! Thank you Mr. Polk for your generosity! We are very grateful for all that you have done for us over time! Thank you also to Mrs Fenton who shared her story about how she helped plant flags at Ft Knox before WWII...her family still live there today adjacent to Ft Knox Park !
