This included Libertyville and its surrounding areas. The community continued to grow rapidly as waves of immigrants arrived over subsequent decades; in 1910 there were more than 100 families living in Libertyville - about one-seventh of all residents in Cook County! On July 1, 1896, all municipalities within Cook County were reorganized into a single county named "Cook" with liberty being its first word (liberty had been dropped from previous titles). In 1955, Cook County abolished township governments and merged all their functions into individual villages or cities through an act called "The Consolidation Act", which repealed most local ordinances dating back to 1896 including those governing water supply, fire protection and zoning regulations On November 2nd, 2002 new Mayor Tom Barrett announced plans for a $160 million redevelopment project that would include 476 housing units over an area that would stretch across four blocks bounded by State Street on the north side; Washington Boulevard on the south side; First Road on the east side; and Park Avenue on the west side Governor Pat Quinn approved construction plans for Phase I starting in late 2003 with Phase II expected to start in 2006 completion Bring about commercial development totaling $350 million over 10 years will create more than 20K jobs creating even more opportunity for entrepreneurs throughout this community The existing homes will be replaced with larger residences that are accessible via suburban style streetscape
