Lemont, Ill. is a small town located in the Lemont-Munster, Illinois Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,914 at the 2010 census. It has a history dating back to 1851 when it was founded as a farming village on the banks of the Sangamon River by General David Dixon and his family. The first scopes were built in Lemont by local businessmen in 1852. In 1865, Lemont became one of the original towns in Cook County, Illinois. The first city charter was granted to Lemont on September 24, 1870. In 1916, Lemont merged with Munster to form the current municipality of Lemont-Munster. In 1957, Lemont became home to America's first astronomical observatory when Mount Wilson Observatory opened its doors to the public. The observatory was eventually closed due to financial difficulties in 1964 but reopened as an educational museum in 1984 after being repurposed as an event center and convention center for many years. Today it offers visitors unique views of Kitt Peak National Monument and other parts of Arizona and Nevada from its three floors of sky observation area including a 1 meter telescope that allows visitors to view objects up close without having them blocked by clouds or urban development!

After a fire destroyed most of downtown Lemont in 1865, it reinstated itself as the capital on July 4th, 1886 with an event that included a parade and public address by Mayor John Pappagee. From then until 1974 when it merged with neighboring town of Rome to form Rome-Lemont-Lemont Township, Lemont was its only municipality and had no say in government matters save for providing services to its citizens through local police and fire departments. Lemont's rich history goes back to when it first started trading with other parts of Northwestern Illinois Territory including Wabash River Valley (now Indiana). In 1801, Lewis and Clark came across a group of Native American people called the Potawatomi who were living near what is now Lemont Township on their way from hunting game in nearby Kankakee County to trade goods for furs with French traders at Montreal Depot some 25 miles away. They named their new settlement after General James Wilkinson who fought against them during Springfield’s War for Independence in 1775 (the forces under Wilkinson lost). For many years following this discovery until about 1830 or so there was little known about these Indians as they continued to live amongst us peacefulially without any formal hostilities taking place between us settlers or them – until one day we experienced an appalling act where three hundred & fifty men armed only with bows & arrows savagely attacked our unarmed Indian brethren making off with all their property & scalps which still hang around our necks today! What followed were more than two decades where our village slowly built up over time due mostly to sheer hard work ethic & tenacity both within ourselves as individuals as well as our surrounding villages through intermarriage alliances formed throughout my lifetime (& continue into today) while also expanding geographically due not just to natural phenomena such as annexation but also via purchases made through open market transactions thanks mostly to good old fashioned “citizensoldering” i refer you again to President Abraham Lincoln Himself whose Emancipation Proclamation led directly thereto! I am sure you are aware that starting from this date onward anything extraordinarily amazing happened like births/deaths/ marriages etcetera thruOUT THE CITY OF LEMONT WITH NOTHING BUT GREAT ADVENTURE OUT THERE BECAUSE WE WORKED HARD AND PLAYED DIFFICULT TO EARN THAT RIGHT! As mentioned before much has changed since then especially regarding job prospects although things will never quite be right again like they once were; however I refuse categorically 2pacalypse style predictions because I am afraid those days may have already come& gone…but here’s hoping for something better next time! In 1909 Lemont became home to America's first windmill which had been erected on a hill overlooking the river just southwest of town limits by Daniel Guggenheim Jr., brother-in-law of financier J.-P Morgan Sr.. Guggenheim donated land adjacent his house which he used for agricultural purposes alongwith his own millstream located 3 miles north on State Street opposite least resistance Windmill Road Lodge which eventually became known simply as Guggenheim Mill Boulevard thereafter carrying that name still today despite having been demolished many times over most recently in early 2017 according To History buffs out there who do some serious online research I believe that even now beneath those towering Imperial Towers hidden inside that former brick structure lies another significant pieceOf American Heritage worth noting: Not surprisingly given its proximityTo downtownChicagoalmosteveryoneassociatedWithAmerican BusinessesOfAll Types HaveOperatedInside THAT MILL FROM START TO FINISHWWW… MUCH LIKE OUR OWN GOVERNMENT HAS DOINFOR MANY YEARS NOW!!!!!!!!!!
