Lemont was once a center of gun magazine manufacturing in the Midwest. Gun magazines have been used to keep firearms in stock, and to provide entertainment for shooters since the early 19th century. There are many different types of gun magazines, but the most common type is the 11-round magazine. Lemont was founded by Adam Wright in 1853 as a small town on the banks of the Chicago River. The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it had a population of over 1,000 people. On July 15, 1861, Lemont became the capital of Illinois when Springfield was moved from Cairo to Lemont. In 1865, Adam Wright sold his business to Nicholas Brady and James McNaughtte and started working at Browning & Wesson as their vice president for sales and marketing. Brady became president of Browning & Wesson in 1881 and continued working there until his death in 1923. He is credited with developing some of the company’s most famous products such as the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) and .22 calibers pistols. Many other famous figures have contributed to Browning & Wesson’s history including Neil Armstrong (the first human being to walk on Mars), John Lennon (the Beatles), Bob Dylan (the Band) and Jimmy Carter (Jimmy Carter). Lemont experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to Chicago’s manufacturing plants which produced munitions for America’s war effort. The city also benefited from increased military spending which led to new businesses opening up in Lemont including dry-cleaning companies, car dealerships, restaurants and an opera house that played host to concerts throughout the war years. After World War II ended, Lemont struggled economically until it received financial help from Illinois Governor Michael Daley who announced plans for downtown redevelopment called “The Streetcar Renaissance” which included creating jobs within blocks of each other while preserving historic buildings along Elmhurst Avenue downtown. This project eventually succeeded and LemONT has since experienced significant economic revitalization aided by government investment ever since!

The City of Lemont was established on November 3, 1871 when John Denton submitted a petition to the board of trustees of the new Sangamon County Normal School (now UIUC) for what would become Lemont Township. On December 12th Drawnen's incorporation as a borough resulted in his being sworn into office as mayor under then Sangamon County law which provided that mayors were "elected by present or future citizens thereof." In 1893 following annexation by Chicago due to fire damage done during construction on Union Station he again ran for Mayor but lost to incumbent James Hickey 2/3rds majority vote over objections from other councilmembers having seen his lack of experience and dedication to public service compared to Hickey's long experience as an officer in municipal government within Chicago's much larger boundaries- this despite being re-elected twice before! Lemont experienced rapid growth following World War II thanks largely to its location within easy driving distance of downtown Chicago – especially after Interstate 95 was completed running through town just west of US 60. Manufacturing jobs left Lemont during the economic recession beginning in 2007; however many businesses have since reopened or started up again thanks to support from local foundations such as Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company and Cook county’s Economic Development Authority (EDA). However joblessness remains a problem among younger generations that have difficulty finding good paying work outside their homes while still needing money for college tuition etc... A recent study conducted by UIUC found that African American males ages 25-34 had rates about three times higher than white males for arrests for marijuana possession (9% vs 4%) and four times higher than whites for gun theft (5% vs 1%). Unemployment rates are highest among Black boys between 15-24 years old; rates among Latinos are even higher with rates above 20%. Lemont enjoys excellent weather year round with average highs around 75 degrees F throughout most months while lows reach around 40F occasionally making it one of the mildest cities in Illinois!
