Aurora-Lemont City Council District 1 encompasses most of the eastern edge of Lemont and much of western edge including portions of Glendale Heights and Oak Forest. In addition to serving as home to many major businesses and cultural institutions, this district also includes extensive areas where residents enjoy excellent public schools - making it one of Aurora's most diverse areas when compared to other cities or districts within the city limits

Lemont, Illinois is located in the shadow of Chicago and its manufacturing district. The population was 9,735 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most rural towns in Cook County. The town was named after Lemont, Michigan, which at that time was a small community on the banks of the Chicago River. Lemont's first settler was John Burt, who arrived around 1836. In 1848, Lemont became a village under the jurisdiction of Skokie Township. A post office called Lemont had been established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1870. The first school in Lemont opened in 1857; it closed because there were not enough students to warrant a school building. The first church services were held in a barn on State Street in 1861. In 1865, Lemont became an unincorporated community under the jurisdiction of Kane County when that county was created from parts of DuPage and Kane counties.. In 1893, when Cook County was divided into two new counties - Cook and McHenry - Lemont became part of McHenry County. It remained as an unincorporated community until 1954 when it became a part of Cook County again following annexation by that county from Lake Forest Park metropolitan area.. The Lemont-Hampden School District #2 opened its doors to students on September 15th 1951 with instruction starting at 6:30am each day for grades PK-8th grade followed by 1st through 3rd grade using portable classrooms while supplies last! There have been many name changes throughout our history but our mission has always been to provide quality education for all children!
Lemont, Illinois was founded on October 15, 1836 by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The town was named for General Jonathan Lemont who served in the expedition. The first post office in Lemont was established in 1837. On November 3, 1836, Lemont became the capital of Cook County.
