Lemont was founded by settlers from Michigan in 1834 and became a village on December 12, 1835. On November 29, 1854 it became part of the Town of Chicago when that city was organized. In 1886 it became a city with its own government; however, on January 1, 1893 it reverted back to its Village form under Chicago Mayor John Hennigan's leadership. On October 15, 1903 City Council passed an ordinance establishing wards for City Election purposes which made Lemont one seat per ward in City Hall with Aldermanic representation being based upon property value rather than race or gender; this ordinance remains in effect today as Ward 11th Street ward includes most of downtown Lemont including most commercial areas while Ward 10th Streetward contains more rural residential areas including parts of Lemont that are now part of neighboring unincorporated communities such as Romeoville and Vernon Hills On February 17th 2017 Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed legislation (A-3248) to amend the Charter Revision Amendment Act which would add six new wards (Ward 9th Street ward includes much downtown Evanston), make all zoning requirements applicable to all new development within one year for all types projects regardless size or typeface/materials used etc., provide for up to $500 million in earmarked tax increment financing (TIF) over ten years for affordable housing developments throughout Cook County starting no earlier than 2020 across both wards increasing gradually until reaching $1 billion over 25 years On March 3rd 2017 following public hearings held throughout Cook County residents overwhelmingly rejected A-3248 by passing a Resolution Passed at Hearings singing “No Tax Increment Financing In Our Name”

The later designs became more common as shotguns began being developed, as they could be fired multiple times with ease. Compressed gas weapons such as handguns and rifles have been around since before pistols were even invented! In 1453 BC Persia had the first gun that used heated gas rather than cold metalpowder to launch projectiles (the earliest known recorded use of environmental propellants). Firearms made from animal or vegetable matter were also developed prior to this time including bows and arrows using hot oil or animal fat drawn up into small cones or tubes (all dating back 6500 years!).
On October 20, 1892, the first airgun was designed and patented by Samuel Colt. The Colt Model 1 airgun was a single-shot shotgun that used compressed air to fire pellets.

The first settlers in what is now Lemont were farmers who came to the area around 1820. In 1836, a post office was established at Lemont and it remained in operation until 1957. The first store in town was built on Nocona Street in 1882. It was later replaced by the current store building which opened in 1907. In 1916, a dam was constructed near present day Lemont and owned by the United States Army Corps of Engineers was used for irrigation purposes. The name of this dam is still seen today as part of the community's name: Harrison Dam. In 1927, construction began on what would become known as Hinkle Park which Today houses many businesses including an elementary school and a playground district . In 1954, Lemont High School opened its doors for students grades 8 through 12 . The park also served as a local stadium for football games until 1970 when it closed due to lack of use
Lemont is a small, rural town in Iroquois County, Illinois, United States. The population was 576 at the 2000 census. The town of Lemont was first settled in 1847 by John H. and Catharine Cote.
