In the early 1800s, gun targets were a popular pastime in Lake Zurich. Gunners would take aim at small game like squirrels and rabbits with their rifles, while others enjoyed shooting at targets made from wood or metal. Many of these targets still exist today, and can be found in a variety of locations throughout the city. The first target was erected on State Street in 1827. It was built by John Slingerland, who also created the first public park in Lake Zurich. The target became known as "Slingerland's Folly," and is considered to be one of the city's most important historical landmarks. Over time, other businesses began to invest in making their own targets, and by 1830 there were over 50 target ranges within the city limits. One of the earliest modern Target Ranges was established on West Monroe Street in 1895. It remained operational until it burned down in 1996. Today, only two remnants of this range remain – an old floorless stand that sits outside of local business The Northern Spyglass Building on Wabash Avenue and a set of five cast iron posts that sit near the intersection of Lafayette Boulevard and Menard Road. Today, gunners continue to enjoy taking aim at small game at many different locations throughout Lake Zurich thanks to these target ranges. Some are open year-round while others are only open during certain months or years (like September). Regardless of when they're open, visitors are always able to find an opportunity to shoot some hoops or take part in other activities inside any targeted area!

This will prevent them from firing while in your hand which would give away your position
The first gun target in the town of Lake Zurich was erected by Captain John P. Ryan on May 1, 1836. The target was a cannonball that had been recovered from an engagement near the town limits.
Lake Zurich is a large, clear body of water located in the southern Illinois area. The name comes from its location on the border of two counties and it has been given various names throughout its history- including: Lake Washington, Lake Michigan, and finally, Chicago's first urban waterbody. The first humans to live in what is now Lake Zurich were farmers who grew corn and other crops near the north end of the body of water. By the early 1800s, though, development had begun around the south end of the lake where a group of people named themselves The Townsite Company. They built dwellings and businesses on land that would become part of what is now downtown Chicago. The townsite company was followed by others who developed areas around both ends of the lake- eventually coming to be known as neighborhoods such as Englewood (north), Lincoln Park (south), and Wilmette (west). The city was founded on this land in 1847 when a group led by George Lawler donated 4 acres for what would become downtown Chicago. With over 400 residents living in places like Wilmette and Englewood at their peak, it's no wonder that Lake Zurich quickly became one of Chicagos most popular tourist destinations. Today,Lake Zurich remains an important stop for tourists visiting Chicago's beautiful architecture and delicious food options - with more than 1 million visitors each year! Lake Zurich is a townsite in Cook County, Illinois. The village of Lake Zurich was incorporated on December 14, 1853. The village became the town of Lake Zurich on December 20, 1855. On November 3, 1907, the town merged with the city of Chicago to form the city of Chicago and Cook County.
Lake Zurich was founded in 1824 by George Stephenson. The community, located about an hour west of Chicago, was named for the then-unnamed body of water that lay between the towns of Geneva and Rockford. In 1881, Lake Zurich became a city by ordinance and incorporated as a separate municipality with a population of over 100,000.
