Today, its surface area is over 120 acres and its population has grown to over 1,500 residents. The township has made significant contributions to both the community and Lake In The Hills itself by developing several parks including Pioneer Park which contains a playground, tennis courts and racing track; Lakeshore Park which houses basketball courts – among other features; Bear Creek Wildlife Preserve which includes 4 miles of hiking/biking trails; as well as 4 golf courses- 3 public courses (2 on State land) and 1 private course (Navy Pier Golf Course). Since its creation as a waterbody reserved for citizens only, much progress has been made by Township staff toward making lake access more accessible to all who wish to use it without having too much difficulty or inconvenience: impoundments were removed so that boat owners could bring their vessels into the facility without fear of being towed away; 8 km long concrete waterfront walkway has been built between Pioneer Park entrance southbound off I-64 near County Rd 714 eastbound exit ramps allowing pedestrians access not only from northbound I-64 but also southbound County Rd 714; 5 new launch ramps have been constructed at various points along shoreline making getting your boat onto or leaving dock easier than ever before! Lake In The Hills, Illinois is a small town in Decatur County, Illinois. It was founded in 1853 by the Union Pacific Railroad and has been growing since then. The town is located in the northwest corner of the county, on the border of Decatur and Butler counties. Lake In The Hills is one of two towns in Illinois that are both named for natural bodies of water - the other being Moline. At its peak, Lake In The Hills had over 6,000 residents in 1950. Since then it has slowly declined as population growth and development have moved to larger cities nearby. However, the town remains an important cultural and economic center within its own community and region.
The first Europeans to visit the area were French in 1679 and they named it "Lake In The Hills" after a hill in France. The name was anglicized by the local Germans, and then shortened to Lake In The Hills. The first town in the area was called Indianola, which is now part of Peoria. A post office was established at Indianola in 1836, and the village of Ingersoll was founded nearby in 1839. By 1890, there were over 200 people living in the area. In 1907, Congress approved a bill providing for the creation of a new state within Illinois as a result of Abraham Lincoln's victory in the presidential election that year. On May 8, 1907, Lake In The Hills became an official county seat of Cook County. On December 3, 1912, World War I began with Austria-Hungary invading Serbia and Montenegro. By December 10th all Czechoslovakia had been invaded including Lake In The Hills with 5% of its population living there because their compatriots could not leave for fear of being captured or killed by Austria-Hungary while trying to escape overland into Czechoslovakia proper. Most residents chose to stay behind and fight rather than flee their homes; however 9% decided to leave altogether which would have created one of largest forced migrations in American history had it continued through out World War I (the census data does not reflect this). It is said that General John J Pershing offered US servicemen food and shelter if they voluntarily left their homes during World War I but few took him up on his offer because they knew what awaited them once Germany lost control over Europe
