The history of targets in Lake Forest, Illinois is long and convoluted. The city was founded in 1847 by John C. Dearborn, a surveyor who named the area after himself. That same year, Dearborn donated land to the village for use as a public hunting ground. By 1855, there were eighty-four muzzleloader and rifle targets set up in the park. In 1865, Dearborn sold the property to Abraham Lincoln for $1,700. The new owners built a manor on the site and continued to use it for target practice until 1907 when they sold it again to the city for $3,000. In that year, City Council decided to erect a tower at one of the corners of Elmira and Gifford streets as a municipal landmark.. The first target hit by an American soldier during World War I was fired from this tower on July 1st 1916. After World War I ended, interest in target shooting declined in Lake Forest but did not disappear completely; some individuals still hunted with rifles or muzzleloaders throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In 1935, Mayor John J. McCarthy purchased three hundred acres adjacent to Parkland Avenue which became known as “McCarthy Park” (later renamed Evergreen Park). This open space served as an additional hunting ground until 1954 when gun control laws made it illegal to fire any firearms within five blocks of City Hall without prior written consent from Mayor McCarthy himself or his deputies! Today’s Target Practice Facility dates back to 1978 when City Manager Dick Kapp acquired two old buildings at 9500 N Glendale Ave., just east of Hennepin Street between Oak Lawn Road and West Side Highway (now Highwood Boulevard). These buildings were used as storage sheds until 1984 when they were leased by local businesses who then tore them down and replaced them with contemporary facilities that now house both Target Practice Facilities and various other municipal purposes including home game days for schoolchildren and community events such as Fourth of July fireworks displays!

In recent years however some residents have voiced concerns about how much development remains without proper planning or consideration for what would come after these large companies leave town; some fear that this could lead to displacement and loss of character for one Of America's most vibrant cities

Lake Forest is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Lake Forest is located at (41.439795, -87.517723). According to the 2010 census, its population was 1,895 people. The village of Cedar Crest had a population of 697 before it merged with Lake Forest on February 14, 2009. The name "Lake Forest" first appears on a map prepared for the Sangamon County Commissioners in 1847 and named after Captain John Leland who had bought land from the Kankakee Indians near what is now Elmhurst Road and Randolph Road in that year and built a cabin thereon known as "the Grove." Captain Leland's son-in-law George Hennepin also claimed land about two miles south of where present day Elmhurst Road meets Randolph Road which he called "Hennepin's Woods." In 1849 An Act was passed by Congress providing for the organization of townships within Sangamon County and one such township was organized under the name "LakeForest." On July 12, 1850 Samuel Jorstad acquired 640 acres comprising most of modern day Lake Forest from Captain John Leland for $2 per acre On February 14th 1909 Cedar Crest Township merged into Lake forest
