Gun sights have been an important part of many rifles and shotguns for over a century. Shotguns featured boresighted barrels which allowed users to place rounds perfectly on any given spot within seconds by looking through a crosshair sighted at that point on the barrel instead of relying on guesswork based upon how far away your eye was relative to the barrel axis

Gun sights have a long and varied history in Lake Forest, Illinois. Some of the earliest gun sights were built by Capt. Nathan Ransom in 1848. His company built about 50 sight posts around the area for use by riflemen on the frontier. In 1865, Capt. John Daley founded the first shooting range in Lake Forest, which was later renamed the Daley Range after him. In 1903, General George Patton visited Lake Forest and is credited with introducing modern firing ranges to America. The Patton Range was eventually sold to Double Eagle Shooting Company and is currently used as a training ground by the Chicago Police Department. In 1919, Captain William Hickey erected a post beside his house at 6th Street and Wabash Avenue to serve as a target practice range for local militia units available for training purposes only. In 1924, Captain Hickey's son Lieutenant William Hickey donated land at 107th Street and Wabash Avenue to become what is now known as the Lt. William Hickey Museum of Gunnery History & Heritage (LWHMHH). The museum features over 100 firearms from throughout Lake Forest’s gunsight history including rifles, pistols, shotguns, muzzleloaders and revolvers dating back to 1848!
Lake Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Lake Forest were French Catholics who arrived from Quebec in 1795. They established a small settlement on the north side of the present-day village near its mouth on the Chicago River. The name "Lake Forest" was given to it by General James K. Polk in 1871 when he named a tract within its boundaries after his ill-fated campaign against Mexico City's forces during the Mexican–American War. The village of Lake Forest was organized as a town in 1951 and annexed by Chicago as part of that city's suburban growth. The original village had a population of 2,700 residents; however, today it has only about 1,000 inhabitants due to increased commuting to downtown Chicago and other nearby neighborhoods. In addition to its small size and lack of amenities, another common complaint about Lake Forest is its high cost of living relative to other municipalities in Cook County. According to Forbes magazine's 2009 list of America's priciest cities, lake forest ranked second highest among all U.S. towns with a total market value greater than $100 million (behind only Beverly Hills). This affordability may be partially due to government subsidies which make home ownership more affordable for low-income residents; however, also contributing are strong job markets and large number of businesses located close to public transportation options such as Railroads 360° Station or Clinton Park stop on Metro North Railroad service into downtown Chicago (which allows easy access by car or bus into many smaller villages across Cook County). These strengths have helped keep prices down over time while still providing ample resources for schools and other services needed by locals – including libraries and parks – making it one of Illinois' most popular destinations for families between the ages 0–18 years old[1].

Thanks to this unique arrangement, Hull House – located on Michigan Avenue – became one of America’s earliest housing developments for working-class families during World War I (the war stimulated economic growth in downtown Chicago). Today, visitors can explore some famous landmarks associated with early days in Lake Forest: Hull House (now a museum), Mount Carmel Cemetery (home to some Ofallon graves from when settlement began), Trinity Episcopal Church (the first Protestant church established outside London), and Ford Motor Company’s Factory Campus – home to many products that have come into common use across North America over the years such as Chevrolet Volt battery packs and Ford Focus Electric vehicles
