Lake Forest, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 61,437 at the 2010 census. It is the tenth-largest city in Cook County. With a total of 902 acres (350 hectares), it is one of the largest planned communities in the United States. The first settlers in what is now Lake Forest were farmers and their families who arrived from Indiana in 1847. By 1855, there were three stores and eighty-six residents. In 1861, when Chicago was founded, business people from Lake Forest decided to move to the new city and started a store here called "The Eagle". They soon built two other stores and began trading with other cities across Illinois. In 1872, they organized themselves as the First National Bank of Chicago and opened a branch here. They became one of the most successful businesses in town and prospered until 1907 when they went out of business due to prohibitionism within Chicago's banking industry. In 1915–1916, Mrs. John Laughlin donated land at South Shore Drive and West Side Highway for what would become known as "Laughlin Park." The park included an open-air amphitheater that could seat up to 1,000 people; also on this property was Lake Forest High School which opened its doors on September 15th 1916 under Msgr./Mrs.. Edward Haddad with 27 students enrolled for grades 7 through 12 inclusive; today it continues as one of America's oldest public high schools . On November 5th 1922 merchants from Northbrook along with Mr./Mrs.(George) Wirtz donated land at 64th Street between Kedzie Avenue and Damen Avenue for what would become known as "Wirtz Park." This area included future sites for Northwestern Memorial Hospital (now Northwestern University) as well as several shopping centers including Field Museum , Sears & Roebuck Plaza . From 1921 until 1954 it housed both Evanston Township Hall (now Northwestern University Law School) - later moved back to downtown after moving intovarious buildings Downtown - while also serving as village hall

In 1916, Lake Forest became a city and has continued to grow since then. In recent years, Lake Forest has become known for its agricultural products such as apples, grapes, cornmeal, soybeans and tofu. Additionally, it is home to several major companies including Wrigley Field (the former home of Chicago Cubs), which anchors the downtown district; Unitedhealthcare (one of America's largest health insurers); Northwestern Mutual (a large insurer with headquarters in nearby Northfield); and Deer Park Golf Course (owned by celebrity golfer Tiger Woods). Lake Forest is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,665 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city on the Chicago metropolitan area after Chicago Heights. The current Mayor of Lake Forest is Rebecca Solnit. The first permanent settlers in what would become Lake Forest were two families who arrived from Connecticut in 1779 and built a cabin on the east side of what is now Cicero Avenue. They named their new land "Lake Forest" after their home town of Hartford, Connecticut. In 1803, John Prentice and his brother Moses founded the Illinois Central Railroad near present-day Elmhurst Avenue and Cicero Avenue to bring goods and passengers between Chicago and St Louis. In 1828, Cook County was organized, including part of its present boundaries; by this time "Lake Forest" had grown to include all of Cook County west of Joliet Creek (now part of Oak Lawn). On December 20, 1830, James Jarratt purchased 2/3 interest in the Illinois Central Railroad from Prentice for $5,000 cash and erected a depot on Willoughby Road east of Elmhurst Avenue. In 1834–35 James Jarratt developed what is now known as North Park into an extensive agricultural region that produced corn, cottonseed oil (a commodity used to make paint), potatoes, haystack stackers (rice cookers), macaroni & cheese (the first dish made from noodles), stroganoff sauce (made with beef broth) and other items necessary for sustaining farmers living along the Great Lakes region during those years. The following year saw another milestone in Lake Forest's history when water was diverted from Union Pacific's line northward underlayings at Rockford so that ice cream could be trucked downriver to restaurants throughout Chicagoland; by 1840 such truckloads had reached Burlington IL! Lake forest's commercial development continued unabated through Prohibition until 1946 when prohibition ended across most Western U S., but not yet within Lake forest limits – this did however occur within Evanston IL much later! In 1952–53 Sam Adams Brewing Company opened its doors downtown with plans to serve up traditional American craft beers rather than massproduced products being available then like today’s supermarkets These days it still has beer taps inside & outside!
