In La Grange, Illinois, the first gun target was erected in 1851. The village had a small arsenal and the town used it to fire off rounds at targets from 1853-1857. A rifle range opened in 1859 and soon there were also pistol ranges available. In 1862, La Grange became the site of the Battle of Peoria as Union troops defended against Confederate forces. In 1865, La Grange become a city and began to build its own arsenal and police department. The first gun show took place in 1889 and by 1907 there were over 100 gun shows taking place in Illinois each year. By 1912, La Grange had become the largest city with an arsenal of its own and gun shows occurred every week throughout the summer months.
La Grange is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,868 at the 2010 census. La Grange is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. LaGrange is located south of Chicago on the border of Kane and Will Counties. The first permanent settler in what would become La Grange was Nicholasdorf Israelit (1788-1858), who arrived from Bohemia in 1810. He built a cabin about two miles east of present day LaGrange on the banks of the Sangamon River. The land that now makes up La Grane was donated by Israelit to his wife Rebecca and their son Nicholas, who then divided it among themselves as they pleased. In 1835, John Fitch founded Fitchburg on this same site and named his new community after General David Dixon's headquarters at Fordstown in 1796 during the American Revolutionary War. The community rapidly grew due to its location near major transportation routes and its easy access to markets for goods brought overland by wagon or boat. By 1840, there were six stores, four blacksmiths, one printing press, and several other businesses along with 100 residents living in houses made from logs or plank framing with earth floors and sod roofs.. In 1845 Fitchburg had an insurance office; two years later a post office opened under the name "Dixonville". In 1850 Daniel Freeman built a log courthouse which served as both court house and administrative center for all aspects of local government until destroyed by fire in 1871. In 1865 Illinois became a state; La Grange became one of its eight townships within Cook County. That year also saw the opening of the first public school in town - an elementary school building erected on what is now Main Street.. A high school followed suit in 1903.. During World War II many industries closed down around La Grigne because war production diverted resources away from agriculture; however, some remaining businesses reopened such as Tom’s Barber Shop (now known as Bakehouse) which did not close until 1984 whenceased operations due to health concerns associated with lead paint used throughout its history During recent decades there has been occasional growth back into industry but overall muchetsy has changed hands ownership more times than Notchwood did between 1800-1900...LaGrane today still feels like quite an agricultural outpost where farmers worried about crop pests & diseasessteady going out West looking for sunshine& water."

The La Grange community was founded in 1802 by the parents of the present-day town. La Grange is located on a large and isolated tract of land that had been used by the Potawatomi Indians for hunting, fishing, and agriculture. After years of development, construction began on what would become one of Illinois’s first towns. The town was named after General John Fenton, who drove out the French in 1763. Fenton's soldiers built a strong stockade around the original village to protect it from attack. La Grange grew rapidly during its early years. In 1814, when American troops invaded Canada, Governor Daniel Boone selected La Grange as the site for a military post. The town became an important stop on supply routes between Springfield and Chicago. Over time, La Grange developed into a thriving commercial center with several hotels, stores, and churches. In 1836, LaGrange was incorporated as a city under Illinois law. By this time, many other communities had also sprung up around Springfield due to the growing population and new opportunities created by railroad construction. However, LaGrane continued to be one of Springfield’s most vibrant neighborhoods until World War II when it experienced rapid growth in industry and commerce due to wartime demand for munitions plants in nearby Rockford and Moline. Although some homes were destroyed in wartime bombings raids such as The Bombing at Central Park (1945), most residents adapted to postwar life and enjoy continuous economic growth today
In 1847, La Grange was organized as a town in Cook County, Illinois. It became an independent city on February 14, 1907.
