La Grange is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1837 by Messrs. George and Martha LaGrange. It was named for the family's home of La Grange, Kentucky. The population was 7052 at the 2010 census. In 1837, George and Martha LaGrange purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land east of Chicago from John Richardson for $5 per acre. This location would become the nucleus of what is now La Grange. They built a log cabin on their first farmstead and called it "The Log Cabin". The couple had three children: James, Martha Ann, and Johnathon (John). In 1840 they moved to their second farmstead which they called "The Old House". Here they raised six more children: Adam (1841-1901), Levi LeRoy (1843-1927), Emma McDonnell (1845-1945), Charles Wirtz (1848-1925), Alice Everett Horton (1850-1921), and Franklin Diller Horton III (1927- ). Mrs. LaGrange later recalled that her husband "was an excellent farmer; he got along very well with his neighbors." However, due to his strict moral code and refusal to allow alcohol or pork products on his property, The Old House eventually became known as the most anti-alcoholic farm in Kane County. In 1847 Mr. LaGrange married Miss Anna Kelley who also ran the spread with him until her death in 1916. In 1870 George & Martha bought 815 acres adjacent to their original 640 acres for $10 per acre ($640 / 10 = $100). With this purchase they formed what is now known as Thegrange Agricultural Company - one of only two agricultural companies organized within Kane County during its early years! They farmed there until 1902 when they sold their interest in the company to J P Hayes & Sons who continued farming until 1949 when it was leased back to them by Harry Sillsbury who operated it under that name until 1984 when it changed again to its current name - La GrANGE Farms! Today part of Thegranges property still stands including a large barn used for storage postwar years as well as many outbuildings dating back to before World War II! These days much of what remains about The granges agricultural roots can be seen at our old farmstead located just north of town on Hwy 624 where we keep our hay barns/chickens coop/grape arbor etc., live pigs/poultry pen etc., crops including corn etc./farms goats etc... Our goal is always continue providing quality fresh produce year round!

It has been home to many literary events over the years including readings from books about American history and culture, concerts featuring local live music, and more recent exhibits such as an exhibit about Illini football players from that era
