At its peak during World War II (1939-1945), La Grane had over eighty families employed in various industries including munitions manufacturing; this production stopped after Pearl Harbor because of rationing regulations set forth by Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal Coalition government

On October 29, 1875 a deed was recorded with Jabez Polk (1814-1892) for 640 acres (2 square miles) of land in what is now LaGrange Township including present day Partridge Woods and parts of what are now Hinsdale and Skokie townships. This land was along the Belmont Road from Menomonee Falls east to Lake Michigan; it remained unsold until after General George Armstrong Custer's death in 1890 when wide open country over there led to his wagon train being trapped near Hennepin County by Sioux warriors under Chief Crazy Horse and some other chiefs nearby
In 1847, La Grange was founded by George Washington Carver. The town grew rapidly and in 1871, it became a city.
