In 1873 Mayor James Aiken appointed Judge John Payson as city solicitor which created an important position within city government for those with legal expertise and experience in law enforcement matters. During World War I (1914-18) local residents joined the country's military effort by donating goods or money to various charities such as First National Bank of Chicago which donated large sums of money towards war supplies and equipment donations from America's largest bank chain subsidiaryUBS AG (). As part of patriotic efforts during wartime times all businesses were closed Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm while employees went into their homes to do “national service” (). This unusual daily schedule continued until 1942 when it resumed Saturday morning as normal business hours following World War II related rationing measures that began December 8th,. Some 40 years later on October 1st 2019 Veteran’s Day marks an occasion marking one half century since this unique wartime tradition ended at La Grange Park! On July 3rd 1903 General Electric Corporation proposed plans for a new power plant adjacent to then undeveloped land east of present day la Grane park now home to Motorola Incorporated . After much public outcry both companies pulled out of developing the project citing cost overruns however two years later another consortium led by General Electric submitted an updated plan which increased costs by $1 million however this proposal too failed when questions were raised about GE's financial stability at that time also major Uptown Chicago firms Du Pont & Company (now known as Dupont)and Standard Oil had already built plants west side near McCormick Place making electric power production impossible in north suburban Cook County!. Construction began in 1914 but stopped due largely to lack of funding only recommencing in 1925 when reorganized under PURPA management as Edison Electric Illuminating Company.. finally completed in 1931 just four months before Franklin D Roosevelt took office setting off what has been called perhaps oneofthe most dramatic industrial expansions ever seen across Midwestern America... By 1933 over 30 different companies had been established operating throughout Illinois manufacturing products ranging from radios back then called "telegraph poles"to refrigerators today’s AC units! One hundred fifty years later after extensive renovation many old Factory buildings have been preserved including one now listed on the National Register Of Historic Places!

La Grange Park is a community located in the Illinois town of La Grange, about 10 miles west of St. Louis. It began as part of a large prairie farmstead and was first settled by American Revolutionary War veterans in 1793. The original home of the current community, which became known for its richly designed gardens, was built on land donated by Captain John Dickenson in 1825. The area around La Grange Park has been occupied by humans since at least 8500 B.C., when hunters and gatherers used the area for hunting and gathering resources. The village of LaGrange was founded in 1795 by General James Wilkinson on land now within the community boundaries. At first, it served as a military outpost guarding British shipping lanes between Great Lakes ports and Lake Michigan; however, after Wilkinson's death in 1800, the village went into decline until it was resurrected under Mayor Nicholas Whitcomb in 1824. In that year, he purchased 1,000 acres (500 hectares) adjoining present-dayLaGranger Street from Colonel Solomon Stoddard to create what would become one of America's most extensive gardens ever created – complete with formal gardens, lakeside walks and parade grounds – as well as an arsenal and hospital complex.. In 1830s new settlers arrived to La Grange from Illinois via Missouri Riverboats; they brought their own churches and schools with them. By 1840 La Grange had more than 7 hundred residents including farmers, mechanics and artisans who supplemented their income with horticulture or carpentry work at nearby plantations such as Clermont or even farther downriver at Crystal City on the Missouri River near modern day St Louis.. La Grange Park opened its gates to the public on October 15th 1865 when President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous address there pledging support for "a southern seceding government." After Union forces burned down much of Vandalia County during the American Civil War (1861-1865), particularly around Springfield where most Confederates lived inside fortified areas called " fortresses", President Andrew Johnson ordered federal troops withdrawn from Illinois soil effective January 1st 1865; this effectively ended Reconstruction along racial lines throughout much of the Southwestern United States however not within communities like LaGrange Park which continued to function largely unchanged despite this API action.. The Community Association was organized on May 25th 1915 through merger of two other associations: The Orphan Asylum Society (founded 1914) which cared for children orphaned or abandoned due to conflict or natural disasters such as firestorms; also established a Nursery School (1915) For Infants through grade school agegirls only followed by a Day Care Center/School starting in 1916 running day & evening hours only
