Since the early 1800s, La Grange Park has been a popular location forgun target shooting. The park is located in the town of LaGrange, Illinois and was originally known as "The Rifle Range". In 1858, the first public rifle range opened in LaGrange Park. The range was built by Colonel John Pope and was used by both civilian and military shooters. The first shotgun range opened in the park in 1912. Today, there are three major gun ranges within La Grange Park - the NRA'sLa Grange Park Gun Club Range, Crossroads Shooting Sports Inc.'sParkland Shooting Complex, and Southwestern Firearms & Ammo'sSouthwestern Range. As one of America’s most popular recreation areas for gunfire enthusiasts of all ages, La Grane Park is also home to several annual firearm shows such as “Shootout at Crystal Ballers”and “Cavalcade of Guns” which attract thousands of visitors each year.

The Grange Park Rifle Club has been in existence since 1871. The first gun club was organized in La Grange, Illinois, and the club still meets there each month. In 1903 the club moved to its current location on West Side Road in La Grange Park.

La Grange Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in LaGrange County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first residents of what is now LaGrange Park were farmers who started to live and work on their land in 1837. The name "La Grange" was given to the park because it wasnearby Intersection of State Road 52 and Skokie Avenue. In 1874, the village of LaGrange began to form from parts of several adjoining townships when General John Logan created a new township for La Grage County. At that time there were only two buildings in the town square: a courthouse and jail. In 1888, an addition to the courthouse was built with money raised by subscription from landowners in then-Thornwood Township adjacent to present day LaGrange Park. This building became known as "The Star" or "The Town Hall". On October 8, 1889 - also during this time - voters passed a resolution authorising annexation by neighboring Decatur Township which had recently formed from some of former Thornwood Township lands east of I-55/I-294 junction. On December 2, 1890 voters approved annexation by Lake County which had just been organized out of portions of Cook and DuPage Counties following their respective partitions within Illinois during the mid 1800s due to events such as the American Civil War era acquisitions and land sales between those counties and other states including Indiana Territory during that time period As part of its incorporation into Lake County on January 3rd 1902 – more than one hundred years after becoming a CDP – LaGrange Park became one block long with six blocks forming two streets each named Clinton Street (northwest), Harrison Street (southwest), State Road 52 (east), Chicago Boulevard ( southeast), Oak Lawn Avenue (southwest) And Archer Road (northwest). To date it remains one block long with six blocks forming two streets each named Clinton Street (northwest), Harrison Street (southwest), State Road 52(east), Chicago Boulevard( southeast), Oak Lawn Avenue(southwest) And Archer Road(northwest). Prior thereto there were four strips surrounding las granges main street running north/south/east/ west totaling about five acres including an alley between Main Street & Archer Road bisecting la granges south side
In 1892, La Grange Park was organized as a township. On July 1, 1907, it became a city.
