In 1871 John Aiken opened a general store in what is now the alley between Midway Drive and State Road 712 which became known as "Aiken's Alley." On May 2, 1912 LaGrange Park merged with Carpentersville to form that city's only other municipality with over 1,000 residents- also making it one of three municipalities within Kane County that did not annex any additional villages since its creation; all others having done so by 1914-. Then-Mayor Julius Krug formed an advisory committee to recommend changes to how parks were managed which included creating two new park divisions – North and South Parks - within La Grangerie while also expanding existing ones such as Dogpatch Lake into portions of both divisions; these changes were eventually accepted by voters in an election held September 4th 1916 despite protests from citizens concerned about potential loss of open space should their neighborhoods become annexed into new towns or cities ().
