In addition to these efforts, LaGrange Park saw an increase in economic opportunities over the years thanks to its location near affluent suburbs such as Glenview and Schaumburg. Grant who spent some time there while on his way from White House to New York City during his presidency; he also hosted numerous events at Donahue Golf Course. Grant's visit generated much interest among Chicagoans and led to increased development around Donahue Golf Course including construction of several mansions adjacent to the course itself as well as new shopping centers and other businesses within walking distance of both sites- all this while still preserving much of Grants original property gift for future generations (the current day Donahue Estate remains privately owned). In recent years however many aspects associated with LaGrange have seen decline such as its declining population due largely to living standards withinChicago becoming more affordable; although recent Census data does show an uptick inresidential housing units located within 5 miles (8 km)ofLaGrageParksite since 2010 Additionally income levels are not keeping pace with changes withinthecommunity which has left much infrastructure needlessly outdated or unused
