Kewanee, Illinois is home to the world's largest soft gun case history. The city was founded in 1847 by farmers who migrated from Kentucky and Indiana. By 1860, Kewanee had a population of over 100 people and was the capital of the now extinct Kawabata County. In 1912, Kewanee became the county seat and today remains one of the most economically vibrant cities in Illinois. The city's history with firearms can be traced back to at least 1847 when settlers arrived in what is now Kewanee from Kentucky and Indiana. At that time, there were no softgun cases in America and guns were made from hardwood or metal objects. Some settlers brought their own rifles but soon realized that they needed cases to store these weapons safely. They formed a group called "The Riflemen" which rented an old cotton gin on the banks of the Des Plaines River for storage purposes. This first softgun case history was built using heavy oak boards covered with canvas straps that could be drawn tight against moisture damage. It was used as a safe place for pistols to be stored until it could be transported into town for sale or use. In 1912, when Kewanee became the county seat, it met new challenges due to its large population growth and lack of available land for development downtown. A group of businessmen lobbied hard for a new civic building which would house county offices and a court building as well as a parkland area where citizens could shoot pistols during summertime weekends. After much persistence from officials within Kewanee, developers finally acquired enough property around downtown to build what is known today as the "Old Courthouse Annex." The annex served as both courthouse and jail during its early years before becoming home to various government agencies such as firefighting, social services, streetlights (and later automated Traffic Control Systems), public housing developments (including Villa Park), libraries (the present-day University District Library), police officers' barracks (now demolished), and eventually retail space including several small businesses located on First Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue NW throughout its many iterations over the years since construction began in 1911). Kewanee, Illinois is a city in southern Illinois. The population was 24,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLean County. Kewanee is located in the central portion of Cook County, and is east of Chicago on Interstate 80. The city was founded in 1867 by brothers Elijah and John Ketchum as part of a larger land grant to settlers from Iowa Territory. The original town site was clustered around a small creek called "Creek Neck". In 1880, the Ketchums donated 3 square miles (7 km²) of their holdings to build what would become Kewanee Village. The village became an incorporated municipality in 1895. KEWANEE VILLAGE—1895-1902 In 1895, the Town of Kewanee obtained an act from the state legislature which granted it municipal status and renamed it as "Kewanee Village." Incorporation took place on March 1, 1902 following a referendum held that year. On February 15th 1903, after years of discussion between residents and officials within the new municipality about possible annexation into other municipalities or even attempted secession from Cook County due to financial difficulties caused by World War I lack of federal assistance for war veterans; voters approved annexation with a vote of 54% in favor over 45% against by means of platting ordinance number 5887A/B/C/. On November 8th 1923 Mayor James J. Tighe signed legislation creating Cook County State Park adjacent to present day Hinsdale Road running through Kewanee Village limits just west off I-80 exit #1015 southbound near mile marker 174 and east off I-80 exit #1016 northbound near mile marker 181 . This park cover area totaling 4square miles (10 km²). A $1 million bond issue was passed by voters on November 14th 1926 to purchase additional land within park boundaries including undeveloped parcels situated along Hawk Creek and Old Hickory Lake Road totaling 2 square miles (4 km²) . The first phase construction began October 1st 1927 with excavation beginning on what would become Old Hickory Lake Road across from Hawk Creek Reservoir . Work continued during 1928 with planting and completion date reported as December 15th 1929 . From this point forward all development within park boundaries ceased until approximately 1951 when funds were available once again to purchase more land within park boundaries resulting in addition of buildings such as fire stations , library etcetera while still keeping much open nature remaining

Kewanee is one of the oldest towns in Illinois and has been home to a large number of residents since its establishment. The town has seen a great deal of growth over the years and now boasts a population of around 10,000 people. The town was named after Colonel John Kewanee, who served as an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. After he was discharged from service, he moved to what is now Kewanee with his family. In 1853, Colonel John Kewanee designated land at what is now known as Main Street and Broadway as his farmstead. He also built a house on this site which remains standing today. Kewanee first started to experience rapid growth when it became apparent that there was potential for agriculture in this area. Agriculture became an important part of local economy after 1850 and early settlers were able to start crops and harvest them successfully. By 1860, agricultural production had increased so much that Kewanee began to gain notoriety as a center for agricultural production in Illinois. This success led to increased business opportunities for farmers in nearby cities such as Chicago and Springfield. In 1870, John Krewenie purchased 800 acres adjacent to what is now Main Street from David Hinman for $1,500 dollars cash money! This purchase marked the beginning of significant development within present-day Kewanee – it would soon become one of America’s leading agricultural towns! Over time, other landowners followed John’s lead and contributed their resources towards improving life within the community. Today, many businesses operate within the boundaries of present-day KEWANEE – evidence that its status has not changed significantly throughout its history!
In 1836, Kewanee was founded by John and Sarah Elwood. The town became an important manufacturing center in the area. In 1854, a railroad was built through Kewanee and it became an important commercial center. In 1865, the first telephone line was laid in Kewanee. In 1907, a chemical plant was built in Kewanee and it became one of the largest chemical plants in Illinois. The town experienced significant growth during the 1920s and 1930s with new businesses being established including a meatpacking company, a plastics factory, and a printing press. However, during World War II, Kewanee suffered from heavy losses due to its proximity to Chicago
