Between 1924 and 1945 there were also weekly magazines published by various organizations such as The Ku Klux Klan and Alcoholics Anonymous.

However, Mayor Julius J. Meier resurrected Kewanee with his vision for creating an "American Village" where residents would work together to improve their community. Meier's plan called for creation of a library, park district, high school and other public facilities within walking distance of each other. Today, these initiatives still play a role in downtown KewanEE while also creating new opportunities for economic development around campus
