Gun lights have been used by the Kankakee, Illinois community for centuries. For more than a century, people in this small town have relied on firearms to defend themselves and their family. In fact, the first gun light was manufactured in 1892 in Kankakee. At that time, the town was part of the McClung County area and residents were required to carry handguns for protection. The use of gun lights today is an annual tradition in Kankakee thanks to the efforts of our community members who continue to make sure our safety remains top priority.

Kankakee, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,836 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kankakee County. The area that would eventually become Kankakee was first settled by the Lenape people in 1671. In 1812, when Illinois became a state, Kankakee was incorporated as part of Madison Township. The name "Kankakee" originated from an Iroquois word meaning "to make waves." In 1835, John Quincy Adams became the U.S. Minister to France and traveled through Illinois; he stopped at Kankakee on his way to Cairo. Adams reported back to Washington D.C., saying that he found the people here friendly and hospitable and that their climate was most conducive to agriculture and industry. On April 1st, 1840 – one week after Missouri had seceded from the United States – Ohioan James Murtaugh founded what would be known as Murtaugh Iron Works on the site of present-day Kankakee Mills (now owned by Hercules Capital). In 1850, Nicholas Jolas opened a bakery in what is now downtown Kankakee with ovens made of brick and iron dated back to 1800 CE—the oldest brick oven still in operation in America! At this time there were only two other brick ovenseries in America: those owned by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail respectively! In 1851–1852 Amos Northrop built a flour mill on Mississippi Avenue west of downtown which remains operational today as Northrop's Mill & Bakery Incorporated (). On July 15th, 1862 Union General John McClernand destroyed all but two buildings at Murtaugh Iron Works due to arson; this event is also celebrated annually as "Murtaugh Day". This left only Nicholas Jolas's bakery standing which continued operating until it burned down in 1906 (it reopened under new ownership within six months). Kankakee had always been nickname for Illini because many early settlers were natives of nearby Champaign-Urbana; however starting around 1860 or so residents began using the term for any municipality located east or north of Chicago - including Madison Township (then part of Kane County) where they originally lived - even though Chicago encroached upon their territory gradually over time. Eventually everyone living east or north of Chicago came to be called simply "kanks". However Springfieldians continued calling themselves Illini until about 1920 when they officially changed their name to Northwestern Wildcats football team players started referring themselves simply as such during non-conference play against visiting teams regardless of location

Kankakee, Illinois is a small town in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is located in Kankakee County, and was founded on July 1, 1837 by Eli Whitney and his brothers-in-law William Greenough and Jonathan Edwards. The town was named after the Kankakee River which flows through it. The town has had a variety of cultures come and go over its history. The first Europeans to visit the area were French traders who set up a trading post in what is now Burlington, Iowa in 1716. After being destroyed by Native Americans in 1718, they rebuilt their post nearby at present day Kankakee Lake. The British also visited the area during this time, but no settlements were established because of it until 1837 when Eli Whitney and his brother-in-law William Greenough decided to establish a new settlement near current day Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin due to the abundant natural resources available there for agriculture. They named their new community Kankakee after the confluence of two rivers – the Kankakee River (north) and the Muskoka River (south). The town initially consisted of just twenty homes with one store and onemill; however, within three years it had grown to include around 350 residents with four stores and two mills; as well as twelve schools that operated from 1837 until 1860. By 1840, several other towns had been founded nearby including Rockford (to the east), Elgin (tothewest), Waukegan (tothe northwest),and Chicago (tothe south). The influx of settlers led to increased population growth which caused problems such as limited housing space and an overall lack of infrastructure such as roads or water supplies - all factors that would contribute to later economic decline in Kankakee Townspeople throughout much of the 20th century During World War II production at local textile mills stopped due to government rationing; however, many residents continued working during wartime manufacturing jobs at shipyards or munitions plants outside of town . However , following Victory In Europe Day celebrations on April 8th 1945 many workers returned home; however most businesses have since closed or been converted into apartments or condos . Today, despite some challenges such as periodic flooding that can cause extensive damage to homes—Kankakee retains its nickname “The Friendly Village” due largely stylized portrayal by both published accounts[1]*and popular culture**—due primarily to its warm personality & welcoming atmosphere
Kankakee was founded in 1815 as a trading post on the Kankakee River. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, and by 1830 it had over 1,000 residents. By 1860, Kankakee had become one of the most important cities in Illinois. In 1868, Kankakee became the capital of Illinois; it remained that way until 1961 when Chicago took control.
