Joliet, Illinois is a small town located in the northwest corner of Illinois. The population was 9,838 as of the 2010 census. Joliet is one of three towns in Cook County that are included in the Chicago metropolitan area. Joliet is also one of four towns in Kane County that are included in the Lake Forest, IL metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Joliet were Native Americans who had been living there for centuries before European settlers began arriving. They were known as the Potawatomi and their territory extended from present-day downtown Joliet to Burbank and Round Lake Beach east of Lake Michigan. The first white settlers arrived during the1830s and 1840s, when land parcels were auctioned off for settlement on the north side of Chicago Bayou. One settler, John Paulden, named his new community after Giovanni Battista Vico’s Italian Village in Padua, Italy. In 1847, General James Wilkinson foundedthe Illinois Central Railroad here and renamed it after himself—Joliet Junction (later I-90). By 1853, more than two hundred families had relocated to Joliet from throughout northern Illinois and Indiana; many others followed over time as railroads developed throughout Northwestern America. During World War II, Joliet became an important processing center for munitions production due to its location on both sides of Chicago Bayou at I-90/I-55 junction near Wacker Drive and Eads Bridge Road (now part of Uptown Loop). More than seventy factories operated at Joliot during World War II including Humble Chemical Co., DuPont Corp., Dow Corning Glass Works Inc., National Broadcasting System Inc., United States Rubber Company etc.; some 240 workers lost their lives or were injured while working at these plants. During peacetime until later years most manufacturing operations either stopped or moved out of town as technological advances made other methods more efficient; however a few companies such as American Can Opener still operate out of Joliot today doing business under several different names including Western Electric Can Opener Company Inc., HumbleCanOpenerCooperative Limited Partnership et al.. Most large businesses closed down during the economic recession caused by globalize competition which hit Northwestern America particularly hard; however a few notable exceptions such as Bendix Corporation built a new plant here – Bendix Air Conditioning Plant – which survived into the 21st century despite heavy competition from global brands like Carrier air conditioning units! The city's nickname "The City On The Prairie" comes from this geographic feature - much like Milwaukee (~100 miles south) was once called "The Town on Wisconsin" because so many farms stretched along Wisconsin's borderland. Today there are only scattered farmsteads remaining within walking distance or reach by car across open fields typical elsewhere in North America since much farmland was abandoned following World War II unless leased back to farmers through “urban farming” programs managed by government agencies like USDA Soil Conservation Service Today's economy relies mainly upon service industries such as health care (public schools), retail trade (mainly groceries & convenience stores), transportation (mainly highways & airports), information technology ( principally Applebees Restaurants)& professional services: law enforcement (+3 firefighters killed +1 retiree killed 2006), engineering (−2 fatalities 2006), insurance (+11 employees 2007) ect... Many small businesses have closed down over recent years due to changesin local economic conditions but there are still many remnants of old businesses left intact e.gOldsmobile dealershipstill has cars available for sale although most sales activities have shifted online

In Europe, many armies still use magazine-fed rifles because they are easier and faster to reload than traditional bolt action firearms. In America, however, rifle magazines are slowly being phased out as a result of advances in firearm technology which makes self-loading firearms much more reliable and efficient than previous models.
