The guinea pig was initially thought to be the ancestor of all animals because they can lay eggs straight down their throats without going outside (a capability exclusive to camels). However, after further study it was realized that these wee pigs also used their four limbs for various activities including eating and walking around. It then became evident that all living things have capabilities unique to them and are not simply descendants of ancient ancestors!

In 1846, it became a city when Chicago annexed it into its municipal boundaries. During World War II, Joliet played an important role in Nazi Germany's supply chain for munitions production; during this time, many German nationals were forced to work here as slave labor. The city experienced large population growth during the postwar years; however, due to high crime rates and a lack of jobs opportunities for native-born citizens (who constituted 60% of all residents), much residential development occurred only outside of downtown or along major arterial streets such as Cookston Road and White Sox Drive. Joliotians have been responsible for some very significant civic achievements throughout their history: Mayor Edward Byrne (1954-1965) led efforts which saved downtown from demolition following racial riots; David Kirkpatrick (1996-2000) successfully prosecuted three white officers who had murdered black teenager Laquan McDonald; Mayor Rahm Emanuel (2013 - present) has sponsored several waves of immigrants into the city through programs like HOPE VI/Chamberlin Landingou
