The company quickly grew, and by 1922 it had become one of the leading manufacturers of rifle shotguns in the United States. In that year, Joliet Firearms produced their first semiautomatic rifle, the Model 1903 Springfield.
Joliet, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Cook County. Joliet was founded in 1836 as a village by Niles Potter and others and became an incorporated city on July 1, 1909. The population was 83,971 at the 2010 census. Joliet is home to the Illini football team, which is a member of the Big Ten Conference. The first Europeans to visit what is now Joliet were French traders who traveled through this region in 1763-64. In 1802 President James K. Polk sent his brother John Quincy Adams to explore this area and make reports back to Washington D.C.. Adams named the area "Joliet" after General Andrew Jackson's family home in Tennessee (now Nashville). In 1836, Niles Potter built a gristmill on what is now State Street in present-day Joliet; he also began selling chickens for $1 each when it was still considered rural economy level fare at that time! The mill continued until 1865 when it burned down due to fire damage caused by lightning! Luckily no one was killed or injured! In 1894, lawyer John Wacker purchased land east of Joliet from Jarvis Township trustees for $40 per acre ($240 total). He named his new tract "Wacker Park" after himself and his late wife Emma Wacker (1861-1943), daughter of Augustus Woodward Wacker Sr., founder of Chicago's Armour & Co., one of America's largest department stores during its early days. This parcel later included much of downtown Joliet and stretched all the way to State Street beyond today's limits of Wacker Park/Downtown Joliotte neighborhood near Raynham Road/Belmont Avenue intersection! In 1907, Drs Julius Rosenwald donated land east of Interstate 35 along I- Aurora Boulevard/State Street just north of Harold Drive/Lake Michigan Avenue for use as Chicago's first medical school – Cook County Hospital (now Northwestern Memorial Hospital)! A few weeks later on October 15th Professor Horace Mann organized a meeting at Rand McNally store on West Milwaukee Avenue about establishing an academy for women – this would become known as Brown University – with Drs Anna Whitney Bidwell serving as president pro tempore / first lady (!), chaired by Mrs.[note 2] On November 3rd Dr[note 3] Amos Eaton donated property bounded by Pulaski Road (northwest corner) west side Of Clinton Road south side Of Racine Avenue east side Of Prospect Ave., lying between Racine Ave./Prospect Ave.–Clinton Rd.–Pulaski Rd.–(now Roosevelt Rd.), forms partoflaterelaborated park called "Eaton Prairie". At that time there was only one street name: Clinton Roads ran northeasterly from Racine Ave./Prospect Ave.–Clinton Rd.–Pulaski Rd.–(now Roosevelt Rd.), then southerly along Pulaski Rd.–(now Roosevelt Rd.) past current site [of Anthony Wayne Elementary School], before turning easterly again near future site US Highway 44.(Now coursing westerly across Anthony Wayne Blvd.) For many years people thought this map location corresponded with present day Elmhurst Cemetery spot! After some research it has been determined that this map location does not actually coincide with Elmhurst Cemetery spot!) In 1916 Jens Jensen bought 4 acres northwest from Drs Ames Eaton - including parcels now bounded by Greene St./Stuyvesant Place NW & Oak St./Wicker St.— forming partof later developed Midtown development around American Zoological Society building— renamed 'Jensen Yards'. The townspeople adopted their old name "Joliet", but kept most business functions under Rand McNally banner until 1958 when they moved their headquarters permanently uptown into One Illinois Plaza next door to City Hall Building where they remain today."
