However, good business opportunities led to its rapid growth throughout the 20th century and by 1920 there were more than 500 businesses operating in downtown Jacksonville with over 100 manufacturing companies employing up to 4500 people during that time frame alone! In 1956 Mayor William Dudley announced plans for an expressway through Jaguars town center which would have destroyed much if not all of its commercial viability but public outcry delayed construction until 1970 when Interstate 95 was finally constructed just east of town limits! After more than 40 years as an unincorporated community surrounded by rural farmlandsteads (now part of Arlington Heights), Jaguars first post office opened in 1913 inside Goodrich House! That same year saw the opening of Wexford’s Drug Store which remains one today’s anchor tenant along with other locally owned businesses! After World War II ended there were significant decreases in manufacturing jobs but steady growth occurred during suburbanization; this included several thousand housing units being developed along I-95 between 1995 and 2007!
