In 1924, The Arsenal fire arms and Ammunition store merged with another firearms dealership called The Gun Emporium which had been founded by Julius Kappenberg a few years earlier. At that time, Julius Kappenberg was one of the most important figures in the gun industry. He had helped establish several successful businesses including The Gun Emporium which merged with The Arsenal fire arms and Ammunition store in 1924 to form TheGun Emporium Incorporated (TGE). Jacksonville, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first residents of Jacksonville were people from Northern Indiana who crossed the state line into Kane County on their way to what is now Michigan in search of land for farming and trade purposes. They were followed by other groups from around Midwest America as they migrated westward through what is now Kane County. In 1836, Jacksontown was founded by some of these early pioneers as a trading post on the banks of the White River just east of present-day Jacksonville. By 1840, there were over 100 settlers living in Jacksontown and it became an important center for transportation and trade within the county. In 1867, after Illinois had split from Indiana and become its own state, Jackson Township was organized within Kane County. The township's first courthouse was built in 1870 on the site where later would be built the current municipal building located across Main Street from headquarters of First National Bank (now JPMorgan Chase). Because Jackson Township covered so much territory - including parts of today's Highland Park and northwest Cook County - it took many years for development to take place within its borders. However, during this time period there were several successful businesses established withinJackson Township including: a grocery store (1887), a millinery store (1914), a photographer's studio (1920), and finally a cotton gin (1927). This progressivism can also be seen in local government with Jackson Township having two mayoralties between 1907-1950 combined; one during World War I when most services such as public works or education were handled by county officials while also maintaining day-to-day operations; and another beginning in 1950 following incorporation when all township functions were centralized under one roof with mayoral oversight until disbanding in 1987 due to budget cuts caused by then-new KDKA television station ownership shenanigans which have yet to be fully resolved although no new elections have been held since then).
