The first post office was established in Jacksonville on December 2, 1837 service started November 3rd In 1854 Jacksonville became the county seat of DuPage County after it was annexed by Illinois from Michigan Territory In 1898 when DuPage County merged with Cook County to form a new county called 'Cook' within Illinois, Jacksonville remained an independent municipality until its annexation into Cook County on January 1st 1902 During World War II much of what is now downtown Jacksonville was destroyed due to bombing raids by American forces including both Naval Air Station North Island and Naval Air Station Mayport which were located just east of town along I-55 between Chicago and Ann Arbor Michigan On July 13th 1945 - following Japan's surrender - Jax returned home to its prewar incarnation as an all black city becoming one of only two black American cities (the other being Detroit) while white flight continued throughout most metropolitan areas across America Today - despite some recent declines in business activity due primarily to weak real estate prices and high taxes - Jaguars continue to thrive as an historic black male bastion dating back prior to formal incorporation into the city limits by African Americans giving this mix unique character not found elsewhere

The idea was successful and Jacksonville became the new state capital in 1865. For many years, Jacksonville played an important role as a transportation center due to its location at the mouth of the Mississippi River. The population of Jacksonville peaked at over 100,000 in 1920 but has since declined modestly because of suburbanization and other economic factors. The downtown area is still active with some businesses providing services such as law enforcement and public works; however, most commerce has moved away from downtown towards more recent development along Park Street eastward. Some significant historical events that have occurred within or around Jaguarsvilie include: -In 1830, Jacksonville became a town on what is now known as Park street after becoming one of several towns along East Side Road when this section (then called Indian creek) was donated by Captain David Dixon to be part of a larger land purchases made during Jacksonvilles early history -In 1861, Mayor John Hennepin proposed that Jax become Illinoiss new capital after concerns about Confederate forces moving into Illinois from Missouri -In 1865, whenJacksonville became State Capital
