The Ammunition Industry in Jacksonville, Illinois began with the importation of guns and ammunition from abroad in the late 1800s. The first purchase was a Winchester rifle to be used for target shooting at a local range. In 1902, an affiliate of Armoury & Tool Works was founded in Jacksonville to sell shotguns, rifles and pistols. Ammunition manufacture began by John Waddell and Sons in 1903, who started production of shot shells and black powder cartridges under the name “Weddell Black Powder”. In 1914, Armoury & Tool Works merged with Remington Arms Corporation (now Remington Outdoor Company) and became one of the founding members of American Arms Manufacturing Company. The company produced pistol ammo starting in 1916 until World War II when it shifted its focus towards military arms production. During World War II Armoury & Tool Works produced munitions for both the USAAF (US Navy) and Army Air Forces (USMC). After the war Armory & Tool Works transitioned into civilian ownership as part of American Weapons Corporation before soldering its operations back together again as Armoury Industries Incorporated in 1957. In 1988 Armoury Industries Incorporated was purchased by ATK Group which continued to operate it until 1996 when it was sold to Mossberg Firearms, LLC who continues to operate it today as Mossberg Ammo Division. The history of ammunition is reflective of that of all industries; growth spurts followed by periods where there was stagnation or decline before eventually bouncing back again due to new technologies or innovation within the industry itself. Jacksonville, Illinois is a small town in the DuPage County metropolitan area of Chicago, Illinois. It is located on the banks of the Fox River and has a population of about 30,000. Jacksonville was founded in 1836 by Captain John P. Morgan as "Morgan's Landing." The name waschanged to Jacksonville in 1842 when it became part of the new United States territory of Illinois. In 1847, Jacksonville was made a city and remained so until 1949 when it merged with Chicago to form the current Chicago-area municipality of Jacksonville. The history of Jacksonville goes back to 1836 when Captain John P. Morgan landed his ship at what is now called "Morgan's Landing" on the Fox River near downtown Chicago. This landing marks one important stage in America's westward expansion because it marked land owned by James K. Polk and other American investors that would later become known as Illinois Territory. The first permanent resident in what is now Jacksonville was Sarah Biddle who arrived from Britain with her husband David Wilkinson on July 15, 1836. They were among approximately 150 people who disembarked from Mr. Morgan's ship for resettlement in what would soon be calledJacksonville Township (now DuPage County). In 1840, Daniel Davenport established a ferry service across the river between Jacksonville and Wheaton which allowed goods brought overland from Eastern Kentucky to be transported directly into Chicago without having to go through Jacksonville or any other intermediate towns along the way! This ferry service played an important role during early days of local commerce because it allowed goods carried overland upriver to reach market at much lower costs than if they had been transported via wagon or boat downriver! One can only imagine how successful this Ferry Service must have been if not for some bad luck which led to two devastating fires that swept through parts of Jacksonville in 1862 and 1863!! Both fires destroyed nearly all evidence associated with early trade hereabouts! However, despite these setbacks, Daniel Davenport continued operations until his death in 1865!! His company continues today asboatmenownsvilletransportationinJacksonvillesouthwest Side!!! As time passed and more settlers arrived hereabouts, various names were given to portions of present dayDuPage County: Cookstown township (1846), Liverpool township (1848), Highland avenue (1850), Harrisonburg avenue (1851), White Settlement district (1852) etc…..Eventually abbreviated forms such as McCormickalleytownship(1917), Washington Heightsboroughvillage(1948) etc………became more common due both to confusion caused by changing spelling variations among settlers as well as lack thereof within Du Page Police Department records dating back prior thereto !! There are several contributing factors which went into making this happen including; 1) many families initially settled HEREFAST rather than taking their time traveling downriver & waiting for better times elsewhere 2) there WAS no real community center/hub situat ed hereabouts 3) physical features like rivers /streams & bluff topography DIDN’T lend themselves easily (& still don’t quite fit that description!) 4) overall economic conditions were pretty tough during those days……….and 5) most folks just kindof got used TO living where they did…………………..which slowly but surely started happening over time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The city limits grew to encompass much of northwestern Cook County by 1865 when they annexed part of Lake Forest). After World War II ended in 1945, Jacksonvilles status changed again with the influx of refugees from war-torn Europe who were unable to return home until after the war ended. Many Germans settled in Jacksonville during World War II; their presence is detectable through German business signs and street names that are still present today
