Huntley, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 7,813 at the 2000 census and 8,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of Cook County. Huntley is located on the western edge of Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Huntley" is derived from an early settler named Jacob Hunt (1819-1881). Hunt's family home still stands, and is used as a museum today. In 1871, Mayor James Wirtz proposed that Huntly be renamed after him in recognition for his many years of service to the community and city government - including being one of its first mayors and twice Mayor Pro Tem during its formative years. On July 6th 1870, while he was serving as Mayor Pro Tem, Wirtz delivered a speech before the City Council in which he called for Huntley to be renamed "Wirtzel". The name change passed unanimously with only one dissenting vote! Today, there are several businesses in Huntley that continue to bear that name: VFW Post #622 (founded 1922), American Legion Post #4392 (established 1923), First United Methodist Church (established 1925), and First Presbyterian Church (established 1927). There are also three schools in town: Euharmer School District No 438-C (founded 1945) - which serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade; Mundelein Intermediate School District No 311-B (founded 1957) - which serves students from ninth through twelve grades; and Homan Elementary School District NO 348-A (founded 1965) - which serves students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade). Huntley has always been an agricultural center with a significant presence in both production and processing agriculture products such as cornmeal, soybeans, flour wheat etc., but it has also become known for its wide variety of arts & culture activities including music festivals/concerts/playdates throughout the year as well as its annual Mayfair Festival held over Memorial Day weekend.

Huntley, Illinois is a town in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is located east of Chicago on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. Huntley was founded in 1857 by John Sennett and his brother-in-law Amos Eaton as a post office named for John Huntly, an American Revolutionary War soldier and member of the State House of Representatives from Burlington County, New Jersey. The first settler in Huntley was James Hatton who arrived in 1857. In 1860, David Stowell moved to Huntley from Hartford Township and began to raise corn there. A store built by Stowell and others opened in 1865 and became known as the "First Mercantile Exchange" inHuntley. The first school was erected on the site of present day Middle School in 1868. In 1870, George Wirth bought land near Huntley from Jonas Sheppard for $1,000 cash plus 5% interest on every dollar he paid over $100 then payable yearly installments until sold. Wirth began cultivating corn there and started building a house on what is now North lot 16 which he called his "Hollywood". He also established a wagon road through Huntley that connected different parts of Kankakee County with Chicago via points northward. Wirth continued to farm land near Huntsville until his death in 1904 at age 80 years old; he bequeathed all his land including hunting rights to his grandson George Washington Wirth III who still owns it today after many years of ownership by members of the family
