In 1886, Huntley had a population of two thousand five hundred and ninety four. In 1902, Huntley became a village and experienced rapid growth due to its accessibility to transportation and markets. During World War I, Huntley played an important role as a munitions plant and support center for the war effort. After the war, many residents left Huntsville for reasons such as low prices for goods or lack of opportunity in their new hometowns. However, some residents stayed until they died or moved away. The last resident to live in Huntsville was Arlene Metcalfe who passed away on July 1st, 2006
Huntley was named after General James Hunt, who led American forces in the Battle of Abraham Lincoln. The community was platted in 1859, and it became a city in 1907.
