Huntley is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. It was incorporated on July 14, 1871. The population was 1,019 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Huntley was John Hunt who came to the area in 1848. He and his family were pioneer farmers and began raising corn, wheat, soybeans and other crops. They also built a log cabin which still stands today near the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Higgins Road. Huntley's first post office opened in 1878. The current building was constructed in 1916 by local builders Harshbarger & Greenough along with other buildings located in what is now town center including the old high school building which remains an important commercial property today. In 1955, Huntley became one of twelve townships (later villages) merged into Kane County under Act No. 511 of that year which created county government for all of Kane County except those located within Cook County or Lake County. According to the 2000 census there were 1,054 people residing in town limits when it joined Kane County; however by 2006 this had decreased to 892 as a result of annexation by unincorporated areas of neighboring counties such as McHenry and DuPage . In 2013 there were 910 residents living within the boundaries of town limits only
