Huntley has experienced many changes over its history including being home to one of America’s largest brass making industries during the early 20th century; becoming an agricultural community during World War II; and declining popularity due to suburban development beginning in the late 1960s and continuing into the present day. However, there have been some recent resurgence efforts such as a new shopping center opening in town in 2017 which has drawn attention to Huntsville Township which lies just east of town along Interstate 55

Huntley is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,745 at the 2010 census. Huntley was incorporated as a town on July 1, 1871. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Huntley's history can be traced back to 1795 when Captain John Hunt surveyed and named this area for his friend and neighbor, General James Robertson Hunt. The first settler in what would become Huntley was Amos Wilkinson who arrived in 1800 from England with his family. He started a small farm and grocery store near the current location of the high school and also built a house which still stands today. In 1820 George Dixon founded Dixonville on the east side of village square where he built two residences - one now known as the White House Museum. In 1834 Joshua Fenton organized what would become Dunkirk Township on land that he had bought from Amos Wilkinson. On February 24, 1835 Fenton submitted an application to raise money by selling lots in Dunkirk Township for $2 per acre (or €1/4 at current prices). A vote held on March 3 approved the proposal and Fenton became its first clerk-recorder-assessor-surveyor Dunkirk Township Although not granted official recognition until after Indian Removal Act of 1830 which led to the breaking up of Illinois into various counties, Dunkirk Township may have been chartered before that date due to its location within what is now Kane County (the eastern half of then Cook County) In 1836 Jacob Dickey organized Dickeyville east of present day Dunkirk township on land that he had bought from Joshua Fenton This new township contained only 10 acres but soon grew to include over 100 acres including many large farms stretching into Kane County including present day Cooktowns Westwood Village and Palatine Heights . By 1840 there were three churches in Dickeyville - St Andrews Presbyterian Church (now known as Christ Episcopal Cathedral), Second Baptist Church & School (now known as Park Memorial United Methodist Church), & Third Presbyterian Church (Old First Presbyterian church). Soon enough another church was added - Zion Lutheran Church which served both denominations until it burned down in 1906 . In 1840 Daniel Trimble donate 2 rodsland to make way for a road leading out to Moline so that travelers could get there easier As more people traveled through this area commerce began developing along what would later become State Road 915 . A post office called Hinkle opened here on October 15th, 1840 under mail carrier Jno Crouch After some delay because no wagon roads existed wide open yet people began traveling by stage coach across country taking advantage of stagecoach trails running parallel or intersecting Route 915 . There are several accounts dating back to about 1850 suggesting trade routes crossed through Huntley with points north such as Peoria & Chicago; however it’s unclear if these reports include Huntley itself
