Huntley, Illinois is home to the world’s oldest gun choke. The town was settled in 1849 and a rifle chokesmith named John Davenport built the first known gun choke in 1853. It consisted of a metal band around the barrel that prevented the firearm from firing when pulled back.

Huntley, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Huntley was James K. Hunt who arrived on November 3, 1837 and named his land "Huntley" after himself and his brother-in-law Amos Hinton (1796-1868). James' wife's maiden name was also Huntley but she married Daniel K. Neill in 1839 so her maiden name became official upon their marriage. In 1848, John Wesley Smith moved to Huntley from Bourbonnais Township and platted what would become the town of Huntley on March 10, 1849. At that time there were only three families living in the town limits: John Wetherbee’s family on the east side of Union Creek; Abram Atkinson’s family on the west side; and Moses Eaton’s family on the north side which included present day Huntingdon Road and Old Ford Road. According to The History of Huntingdon County Illinois volume 2 page 610 “Huntley sprang up about two years ago when a group of farmers located there by accident discovered an abandoned cabin near where Union Creek empties into Sangamon River." This discovery led to a small amount of development around this location as early as 1850 with businesses such as a store, physician office and blacksmith shop opening up along Union Creek Boulevard which still exists today as part of I-670 Business Loop Extension
Huntley was founded in 1847 by John Hunt and his wife, Jessica. It is a small town located about 20 miles south of Chicago on the Illinois River. The population was 712 at the 2000 census. Huntley is home to the Huntley-Mayhew Library and its archive, as well as many businesses and churches.
